We stayed at Villa Angela for a week at the end of August 2012 and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going to Sicily. The views (which hit you as soon as you arrive and then dazzle you for your whole stay) are breathtaking - from reception, from the pool, from the balcony of your room, from where you have breakfast - Mount Etna, the brilliant blue sea all along the coast, the town of Castelmola perched on a rock above you, you don't really know which way to look or point your camera.
The staff are so welcoming, friendly and informed (special mention has to go to Katharine here) - we felt at home straight away. Everywhere is very clean and there is a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, you almost feel at times like you are the only ones staying there (the hotel was full when we were there but never felt crowded). Someone has spent a lot of time and effort getting everything just right. We spent a couple of days by the pool (which is itself very clean and a welcome relief from the heat) and there was never a problem getting sunbeds or clean pool towels (they are always available, even if you don't get back to the pool late). Breakfast is included and is very tasty with plenty of healthy options as well as pastries and cakes for those who want them. We enjoyed walking down to the town and back in the evenings (lots of steps but good excercise which definitely helped with our appetites) and we walked up to Castelmola one evening (quite a steep walk but it doesn't take very long). Taormina itself is beautiful and there is a lot to see, we will have to go back at least one more time to fit in everything that we wanted to do and see (and taste). On the subject taste I particularly loved the gelato, the cannoli, the granita and (strangely as I'm not a big fan of them back home) the courgettes - which for some reason in Sicily taste like nowhere else, they are so sweet and delicious.
Will try and work out how to upload some of my photos here, some of which were taken at the hotel, to give you a feel of the place.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Villa Angela for 7 nights and we couldn’t have wished for a better place to spend our honeymoon.

We were made to feel extremely welcome by all the staff we encountered, from receptionist Ada and manager Charlie to restaurant staff Enrico and Clara… nothing was too much trouble for them and they were a mine of useful local information.

The hotel itself is charming, the fittings and fixtures made by local craftsmen ensure it blends in beautifully with its surroundings.
The panoramic views from our private balcony of Mount Etna and the bays below made it a pleasure to get up each morning - as did the promise of an extremely tempting breakfast selection.
We loved the combination of sauteed baby asparagus spears, spinach and scrambled eggs, though there was a wide variety of more conventional breakfast items on offer as well.
The wonderful view from the breakfast room matched that of our balcony and made for an unhurried leisurely start to every day, a real holiday feeling!

The restaurant staff saw to it that items were replenished quickly and were happy to serve caffe latte, cappuccino or hot chocolate in addition to the regular coffee and tea available.
The restaurant was also open for lunch and dinner on some days, which we took advantage of: food and wine served were of a high quality and very reasonably priced.
On the days the restaurant was closed we had dinner at the nearby Al Saraceno restaurant which also served very good food, or went into town where restaurant La Botte with its beautiful terrace was our favourite.

Our room was cleaned and tidied every day to a high standard, and although the hotel was full, the well-maintained swimming pool never felt overcrowded and there were always sunloungers available.
Towels were made available for the pool and for trips to the beach, which was very convenient.
We made our own way around in a hire car, but the hotel minibus shuttle service is a good option for guests without their own transport.
Walking into town from the hotel was no problem going downhill (with the added bonus of some wonderful views) but going back up the steps does require some level of fitness!

Taormina itself is beautiful and boasts some stunning sites to visit, as well as a number of beaches and a huge choice of places to eat and drink.
We have no hesitation at all in highly recommending Villa Angela as a lovely welcoming place to stay while visiting Taormina: it’s the five-star staff who really make the difference!

We stayed at Villa Angela for 3 nights at end of August 2012, as part of a 2 centre holiday organised by Expert to Italy. It was extremely hot during our stay, so the efficient air con was a godsend!
Breakfasts in the morning were ample and taken on the verandah, with lovely views across to Etna and the bay.
Rooms are comfortable and adequately furnished.
The swimming pool was lovely and the pool area kept very clean. Towels are obtained from just inside the restaurant.
We had no problem at all with the shuttle service into the town. we always managed to get our requested times down and return and the service was very punctual.
staff were very helpful, especially at reception.
The only downside for us was the lack of evening meal at the hotel. we did not realise the restaurant was unavailable in the evenings until we arrived. On one evening, after a hot day and a lot of walking, we really felt we wanted to stay at the hotel, rather than returning to town on the transport and traipsing about to find a restaurant in the old town. Perhaps the hotel could consider in high season opening at least for 2 or 3 eves in the week.
whilst bottled water is provided in the mini-bar, we bought water from the town as works out much cheaper.
The old town is lovely and in the evening it is nice to sit with a drink and watch the portrait artists at work and the newly married couples parading down the street from the cathedral. there are many restaurants in the town offering a wide range of dishes to suit all price ranges.
the greek/roman amphitheatre is well worth a visit. I would also recommend walking the full length of the Corsa Umberto to the cable car that goes down to the beach. we then picked up a boat trip one afternoon which takes you around the bay to Giardina Naxos. It gives a different perspective on the town and some lovely photo opportunities.
we travelled to our second accommodation in Siracusa by train. the reception staff wisely pointed us in the direction of a travel agent in the Corsa Umberto, who printed off a ticket for us and advised of train times etc. Taxi to the station from Villa Angela was expensive (20E). Train journey was cheap. Train very punctual and comfortable. Do remember, if travelling by train, to validate your ticket in the machine on the platform prior to boarding. Trains to Siracusa are not that frequent, so this may be difficult to do as a day trip as it is a 2 hour journey. However, they stop at Catania which is useful for the airport or a bit of sightseeing there.

Hotel well up on the top of the hill with magnificent views of Etna.   Very peaceful location.  Staff very very friendly and helpful.

Not much around the area apart from one great restaurant Al sarenco about a 5 minute walk uphill which if you want a night free from being constantly bumped into in the busy town is great; we went twice.   Castlemola is also worth a visit one evening too (up the hill by bus for £1.40).  Taxi will cost you £25!! for a 5 minute journey.

Walked down into the town and back one night down & up the 600 steps - which was hard work considering the temperatures.   Would be great if done late September/October time.    We used the hotel shuttle bus 3 nights which was good but you had to prebook which is difficult when you don't know where or what time you'll finish eating - a bit restrictive.

Loads of restaurants and bars down in the town.  Lively.

The hotel offers special rates at 3 beaches; Stockholm, La Pigna and Tropicana.   All good.   La Pigna was probably the nicest with the most going on but the beach chairs were far too close together.   We favoured the other two.   The pool at the hotel is just too hot; at least at the beach there was a breeze.

With regard to the hotel; considering the money we paid it wasn't that good - it was just ok.  Air conditioning and wifi werent great.  It was comfy enough for a week.

Overall we had a great holiday on a lovely island.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary travelling around Sicily and the 3 days we spent in Taormina at Villa Angela were the highlight of our trip. The hotel is a short 10 minute walk down to town and the hotel's shuttle bus can pick you up if you book it before at reception. The hotel staff, in particular Catherine, could not do enough for us. Her experience and soothing English accent was very conforting for us.

The buffet breakfasts were more than satisfying, with plenty of choice for discerning tastes. Special mention must go to whoever bakes those torts filled with delicious berries .... they were exceptionally good.

All rooms have superb views over the bay and across to Mt Etna, which made it hard to leave your private balcony; which also was a great place to work on the tan as an alternative to the pool or beaches below. Rooms were kept spotlessly clean and the decor gave it a lovely ambience.

Taormina is a wonderful place to experience and staying at Hotel Villa Angela encapsulates this. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: All rooms have excellent views over the bay and across to Mt Etna, as well as over looking the hotel...
