I chose the hotel as it seemed to be well located and a good standard. It's on the hill just out of the main area of town overlooking the cable car down to Mazzarò and Isola Bella, with beautiful views over to the Italian mainland. A very good hotel with typical Italian style rooms, we paid for a balcony (room 103) which is a lovely place to catch the morning sun. Strange numbering system for the rooms, so bear in mind the hotel is built on the side of a hill and the lift only goes down so far and it's a flight of steps down to the room, good excercise for us but not for the less able. Breakfast is really very good, plenty of choice, lovely fresh fruit, a fresh orange juicer, choice of home produced jams and honies, pastries to die for and good hot items too. Staff are all very helpful and professional, from the reception staff to the waiters and pool attendant and those working behind the scenes. It's an easy 5-10 minute (gentle slope) walk into town where there is a huge range of shops bars and restaurants. Lunch is available at the pool area in the hotel as well. The bus station is right opposite, which was really handy for the local trips, and as it's only small did not detract from the area at all. You can walk down to the Isola Bella beach from just down the road, about 550 steps down so think about taking the cable car back up, the top terminus is about 200 yards from the hotel. I would have liked the hotel to offer dinner bed and breakfast, perhaps this is something that the hotel management might consider.

Room tip: Sea view rooms definitely worth having

We booked a superior sea view room for one week. We arrived very early in the AM - 10:00 - due to a 6h45 flight from Florence, The hotel made our room available to us by 11AM. Our room was very clean (excellent housekeeping) and spacious enough for the two of us. Fabulous view from our balcony. Lovely grounds. A quiet and good location as bus terminal, where all tours start, is a minute away. A nice walk to the main piazzas, restaurants, community gardens and Greco-Roman theatre. Very close to the funiculaire if you wish to take in the beaches and Isola Bella. Breakfast buffet (included) was delicious. Front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. A lovely hotel in a stunning location.

Room tip: Go for the Superior Sea View with a balcony. Well worth the few euros more.

We did the web research then went for this hotel. Extremely glad we did. the service was excellent, the staff being "old school" professional yet engaging and friendly. the views from our balcony were superb, towards the heel of Italy and down to the shore a long way below. the rooms were very clean and refreshed each day, including new towels. Also very quiet. As the week went on we realised how well positioned this hotel is compared to others. Close enough to the main street Corso Umberto, but far enough away (under 10 mins walk) to feel you have a retreat. The quiet and small bus station opposite was hardly for local excursions. The pool steps (280?) are worth the track down, and just about worth it back up. In September the sun goes off the pool by 4pm so best to go in the morning. A little disappointed with the hotel menu which was limited compared to the restaurants in town (so many to choose from!) but the breakfasts were staggering choice. We have no hesitation to go back. If you are going...take some suction cup coat hooks as there aren't any in the bathroom. Enjoy

Room tip: balcony sizes and views vary (trees obscuring view?) contact hotel direct

Spent 2 nights here as we traveled through Sicily. The hotel is a bit farther out of the main town area of Taormina but you can walk it; just be careful of the traffic! Pedestrians don't seem to have the Right of Way in Sicily! The hotel from the front is not impressive but once inside it is modern, well cared for and spacious. There are several sitting areas, a wonderful restaurant which offers an amazing breakfast, and views of the Island and the water and the hotel pool! The only problem with this property is the parking. The entrance to the lot is off of the major roadway and getting in or out can be tricky! People at the front desk were helpful and pleasant. Our room was a nice size with a balcony overlooking the water. Our bathroom was quite large! The hotel, because it is built on a hill, has a lot of different room levels but one figures it out quickly.

The Grand hotel Miramare is in a great position in Taormina just a 10 minute walk from the cablecar and Corsa Umberto. The hotel was probably grand in its hayday but it feels a little dated these days.We had room 704 which i cannot recommend, there was a room plan on the wall and showed we were surrounded by 3 bathrooms and the plumbing is ancient and very noisy so i leave that to your imagination plus the shower was 0.8m square just big enough for a child. There is no welcoming bar and the measures were that small we stopped ordering a nightcap. But on the plus side the breakfast is great with a really big choice the pool and pool area and bar are good with friendly staff good food and great views, the only downside is the 180 steps !!.The pool attendant is exellent he will give you clean towels find you a bed and a brolly and explain the best positions for the sun.On the whole a decent hotel close to all the attracions friendly staff but pay the extra for a balcony, they were sold out when we booked.

Room tip: avoid room 704 and book a room with a balcony. The rooms have fabulous views across to Calabria
