Don't listen to anyone that complains about this hotel. My husband and I stayed in a room with a balcony with views of Isola Bella for 7 nights. We traveled all the way from Long Island, New York and loved every single thing about this hotel. The service was amazing, Manuela at the front desk was polite and booked 3 excursions for us. Very helpful staff.

Beach & Pool
Best private beach, we were here from Sept 1-10. Not so crowded, a lot of Italians staying here which we loved. Sun beds are free to use as well as towels. Pool was clean with great sun after 1pm and bar food was delicious.

Shuttle Bus
They offer a free shuttle to town which is very nice. Make sure to reserve your spot before noon to make sure you get the time you want. Why are people complaining about the shuttle times on here? This a FREE service that they do not have to provide as there is a public bus with more times you can PAY for.

Breakfast
The breakfast buffet included in our stay was plentiful and delicious with views of Etna every morning.

Overall I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Taormina.

Room Tip: best views, free shuttle to town, best beach

Positive:

# the view from pool
# the view from your room (but take care, with garden view the gras is above u when u sit outside...
# the cave where u go to the beach and pool, impressive and very special
# free shuttle to taormina center (but very well booked/blocked by other guests)

Negative:

# very very old hotel, max 2 or 3 stars, stains everywhere, furniture from 70ies. Tv does not even have hdmi (like in museum!). U see this everywhere, pool is kinda dirty and greenish in many spaces, surfaces broken - not bad but still not nice.

# 5€ for coke or 8€ for simple Toast with self service and waiting time (3 staff people there, only one working after quiting chatting with others). Cheap can be expensive.

# beach restaurant expensive and only fish dishes (and one steak), not easy if you have fish alergy. Other restaurant only inside, prices starting 30€+ per dish.

# very loud at the pool, people are drinking alcohol, kids are screaming, more sunbeds reserved than people here - staff do not care at all

# quiet area above the pool but without any shadow, take care with your skin.

# free parking nice but without rules, bikes in car spots, cars blocking othets, staff do not care, if full you have to pay (so u know the strategy)

# wifi not for business, disconnects all the time, do not use if you are waiting for something

My fazit:

Its ok if u do not care much about details and just want a Quick week of sun. I would come back but only after a total (and this means total) makeover. This was a nice hotel 30 years ago, its a pitty that the love from the owners was missing so long.

We have just returned from a week at the Atahotel Capotaormina. It was amazing!! The view from the rooms is just wonderful - immediately relaxation just by sitting on the terrace. The pool must have one of the best views in the world. Sitting by the pool it is hard to read a book when you have Mount Etna and the Med to watch! The snorkelling is wonderful, shoals of fish, octopus and huge starfish. The elevator into the cave down to the beach is so James Bond!! We ate at the beachside restaurant on the first evening and the food and the view were breathtaking. The staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the evening shuttle to the wonderful bustling tower of Taormina was perfect. All in all a perfect holiday for all ages - our teenagers loved it too! Thankyou so much!

We chose this hotel because it has its own little beach which residents can use. The position of the hotel on the cliffs at the bottom of the hill leading into Taormina is great for the views of the coast. The hotel is built into the cliffs with the reception on the ground floors and all other floors are below it accessed by several elevators.

Our room was spacious with a pretty balcony with views over the bay. The room itself however was a bit dated and could do with a refresh but was clean and comfortable.

The hotel has a nice saltwater pool and open air bar and several restaurants with similar views of the bay and of Etna. At night,as it gets dark, you can see the red hot lava flows on the volcano.

However, before you choose this hotel it is important to understand that you cannot safely walk to Taormina from here. The route to the town is about 2km on foot (1.3km as the crow flies) and up a steep and twisted road with lots of traffic. The hotel has a bus service, which is good and runs on time, however there aren’t always seats available and there are sometimes long gaps between shuttles and the last one back is at 22.30.
There is a cable car which runs up and down to Taormina but again to reach it there is a walk along a very busy road with no pavements.

If you stay here you need to plan ahead and accept the restriction of the bus.

Old fashioned but clean and with a very good service.

The hotel is on the top of a cliff with a private beach and a fantastic infinity pool overlooking the coast, and this is a real plus in Taormina which is a place very crowded and beaches are difficult to access.

Free shuttle bus to the city center is another big plus although a taxi ride to/from the town center is just 15 bucks so not a big amount.

We think this is the best of both worlds in order to enjoy the sea life and the town life simultaneously.

Some cons: breakfast should be of a better quality for the price paid.

Without any doubt, a room with sea view is a must.

Room Tip: Select a seaview room. Garden view rooms are not worth the price at all
