Villa Plemmirio is located about 15 minutes drive south from Syracuse, the port city originally founded by ancient Greeks and the home of Archimedes. Piazza Duomo at the centre of Syracuse is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, and the cathedral there still incorporates some of the columns of the original temple of Athena. Plemmirio is on the peninsular of Capo Murro di Porco. The sea around about the peninsular is a marine protected area, ideal for snorkeling or diving in the summer.
The Villa is in a quiet cul-de-sac, overlooking the sea, with three large pine trees framing the view. At the back, there is a large garden planted with lemon and olives. It is bounded by a sheer wall cut into the hillside with a cascade of bougainvillea flowers on one side.
When you enter the Villa you find yourself in a large living/dining room panelled in wood; the walls are decorated with original paintings and other small ornaments; the furnishings are solid but comfortable. You immediately understand that you are guests in a family home. The living/dining area has double doors leading to a verandah at the front. To the left is a small but well equipped kitchen with a gas stove and oven. To the right, a corridor leads off to two bedrooms (one twin and one double) and a bathroom with toilet, bidet and shower. Each of the bedrooms has double doors leading out into the garden. The upstairs part of the Villa is closed.
Mrs Cannata, the owner, thoughtfully prepared a delicious parmegiano and an apricot tart for our arrival. She visited twice during our two week stay to pick up mail but always brought something with her for us, and when we left gave us some small gifts, which made us feel that we were more like her personal friends than paying guests. Her kindness and hospitality left an unforgettable impression on us, and made us very keen to come back in future years if the villa is available.
Lovely villa in front of sea and everything you need for a lovely stay. Fantastic location near to Syracuse and all the main cultural attraction of the area
