This was our one 'posh meal' of our 2 week trip to Sicily - so we'd decided to go for the fish tasting menu.

The food was delicious, and some of the courses were exceptional. Our criticism was the speed each course arrived; at times it felt as one waiter cleared one course, another crossed the room with the next with no pause or gap.

I know this sounds picky, but it felt that we were being sped through at a pace that suited the kitchen and not us. And given what we were spending, it meant that the whole experience didn't live up to our expectations.

There are other places we visited on our trip that we'd recommend for a great lunch.

Quick summary first, it did not quite live up to the high expectations. Don't get me wrong, there is not much to complain about. Food was good, borderline great. Service was OK. Wine recommended by the sommelier was excellent. But the place is missing something. You just get the feeling that they don't need and want to try that hard anymore. No flexibility when it comes to selecting tasting menus, no true recommendations, no daily specials. It was all proper and OK but there are better restaurants in Ortigia that try harder. Solid 4 stars but not more.

It is not Sicily! This is unfriendly, cold place with unpleasant people! I am very glad that we have had supper in other place! I have ordered a table on five people via the website of this restaurant. When we have come, have given us a cold reception, havent found a reservation and is extremely unfriendly and haughty - "we have not table for you" - have refused. Neither smiles, nor a regret, nor the offer to come next day. The restaurant was empty at 20:30! In the book ONE record on a reservation! on us looked with hostility, a hint at hospitality! Nightmare! For the first time such haughty, unfriendly communication. It is not Sicily! It is a shame.

The restaurant is beautifully presented, a vaulted brick ceiling with good decorations and well separated tables. First impressions are excellent. The welcome is good and throughout our meal the service was exemplary.
Sadly the food did not match up. We ate the "meat tasting menu" (50Eu per head ex wine) and perhaps this is a mistake as there are two fish tasting menus that other diners seemed to be enjoying.
There was a pre-course Caponata which was delicious; sweet, rich and just a hint of sour.
There were five courses, the first was thinly sliced smoked loin of wild pig - really very good.
Course two was a rice ball stiffed with mild cheese and tender veal in a rich and powerful tomato sauce. Also very good.
Course three was pasta with pork in a cheese sauce. This was well cooked and divided opinion between "good" and "too cheesy".
Course four was loin of rabbit with a Sicilian vegetable stew. The rabbit was tender and moist with a delicate flavour. Sadly the vegetables were strongly acidic and completely overpowered the rabbit. Little of this dish was eaten
Course 5 was lamb cutlets in a crust with stewed veg and a spicy tomato sauce. The lamb was nicely cooked but the "crust" added nothing. The vegetables had the tang of overcooked cabbage and the tomato sauce was not very nice and added nothing to the dish.
Course 6 was dessert. This was excellent and their Orange ice cream is brilliant - made from blood Orange.
We asked the waiter to select an apprpriate wine and he came up with a Red Etna wine that was very good at 35Eu.
Total bill for two 157Eu.

fab venue, great start and end to the meat tasting menu but two dreadful courses from 6 altogether and one only middling in execution. far too heavy on thw vinegar and cheese favouring. wine was good value as is always the case it seems in Sicily
