Just had lunch here. Ordered the sardine bucatini - have had better for half the price. Ordered a tuna steak - edible but not the standard one would expect at a so-called Gourmet restaurant charging these prices. Wine list - exorbitant. But worst of all was the palpable disdain for tourists compared with the warmth of welcome and attention bestowed on locals. Avoid. The place across the square was much better and appreciated the business.

What an establishment. Automated service buttons, individual table lamps, parchment menus - how sophisticated! Except it wasn’t. The food was deplorable and the prices exorbitant. My partner ordered a pesto dish whilst I ordered sardines - here in Sicily what could go wrong? The pesto pasta was an elaborate exercise to deconstruct any conception of the basil-based dish. It appeared as a line of grey food matter apparently squirted from an icing bag. My sardines had undergone some processing procedure which transformed them from silver fish into a non descript paste. This was mixed with some spaghetti and served in what appeared to be a cereal bowl with an inexplicably wide rim. The waiting staff, obviously under heavy manners from the management were over attentive and intrusive. This food would give students’ bedsit cooking a bad name. To cap it all we were charged the best part of £70. As a tourist one is accustomed to local businesses taking advantage of you but this went way beyond your average rip off.

During our 6 day trip to Palermo we ended up eating at this restaurant twice because we really enjoyed the food, service and the atmosphere. The raw fish starter and the salads were pretty good. Pizza and pasta dishes were also well prepared. Nice selection of wine and other drinks. It looks like a tourist trap from the outside, however this restaurant is frequented by locals. Definitely recommend it.

This restaurant has an excellent location in a small square near Quattro Canti. The portions are manageable and the food is very good. The service is excellent. It has a relaxed atmosphere and serves until very late.

Our first evening in the wonderful city of Palermo and we came across the beautiful piazza where this restaurant is situated. Lovely outside seating area (but it was cold and wet, so we ate inside) Interesting ancient wall inside and pleasant decor. The waiters were somewhat inattentive and we waited some time to have our order taken. The wine we wanted was not available, so the waiter said "leave it to me" That was a mistake..the Nero d'Avola he brought us was expensive. Three of us had pizzas and it was agreed that they were very good. I had a chicken Caesar salad which cost 9 euros and it was the size of a small starter. It was bland and boring. In many, many years of eating Italian food, I have never been served up such an unappetising miserable dish of food. This is an expensive restaurant and I don't believe it offers good value. The restaurant opposite is also quite expensive, but the food is wonderful and the staff welcoming, friendly and attentive. A far better bet for a great evening...and I am surprised that the Carlo V doesn't up its game considering the competition on its doorstep.
