The Hilton Olbia hotel is just 4 miles from the airport. During our 7 days stay we go to know the personnel who were very professional, friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was very spacious and clean and had a balcony. The prices for breakfast and dinner were reasonable and of good quality.
I can only recommend Hilton Olbia.

Despite it's "edge of town" location, we actually enjoyed its peace and quiet. Views from balcony over fields to mountains and port. The 15 to 20 minute walk into town was actually very pleasurable as one passed fields of wild grasses and herbs that smelt delightful. ALL staff at Hotel were so helpful even taking our damaged suitcase (courtesy of mis-handling by airline baggage staff!) and mending it sufficiently to allow us to limp home.

They arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport saving the hassle of trying to find a taxi. Well worth it.

Food was generally excellent and service good.
Lovely large swimming pool in lawned grounds. Excellent sun loungers with canopied sunshades. Only minor downside we found was that the young pool attendant/lifeguard insisted on listening to a local Italian pop radio station that played mostly rap music at a high decibel level which made relaxing a tad difficult!! we did mention to reception and it was toned down for a day then up it went again!! I have to say the vast majority of the guests, at our time of year, were not the sort to be wanting to listen to such - plus local commentary. Wonderfully it all stopped at the end of September and peace descended.

Room, though an odd shape, was well furnished and beautifully cleaned each day. A large balcony overlooking fields was furnished with a nice cane table and chairs the table of which we noticed had sustained burn holes courtesy of some disgraceful prior guest (we are non-smokers).

Amazing multi-position shower in large bathroom with loo and bidet. Even a separate window out of bathroom to balcony which was great for airing towels. Lighting over separate room with hand sink excellent - for a change. Even included a special adjustable make-up/shaving mirror. Nice bonus. In fact all lighting had been well thought out and catered for all requirements. Free WiFi was great as well.

We felt it was a great location. We did not hire a car as we just wanted to relax so just took one trip, organised at the Hotel, an all day boat trip round the fabulous Maddelena Islands on the Costa Smeralda a short drive up the coast. Well recommended if you like traversing and swimming on uninhabited islands in emerald coloured crystal waters off white sandy beaches! We sure did.

The hotel has one of the highest rated restaurants on the Island and we could see why. A word of warning though - portion sizes on Sardinia are extremely generous so "under ordering" is recommended. One can always order something else if one wants. Bar food was of a particularly high quality - if one only wanted a snack. Burgers for instance are home made and to order, none of those ghastly grey circles of gods knows what one can be confronted with!! The local beer is superb and their local wines were a great revelation, many choices being served in the Hotel. Quite outstanding. Something worth trying is the very local liqueur called Mirto which is made from Wild Myrtle. Excellent.

Local bus to nearby beaches is a block away so easy to reach.

All in all we would certainly consider returning - which is something we rarely do - as we were made so welcome. Would recommend for a relaxing holiday or as a base for touring if you have a car.

I can't really say I thought the DoubleTree was a great hotel, it was good and the staff mostly polite and courteous, although a little more customer service training wouldn't go a miss.

The hotel itself could probably best be described as looking like a prison block. Built in one of the most bizarre locations with nothing surrounding it except scrub land and a peculiar road system with many roads leading nowhere. It's built of concrete but with neon lights trying to disguise its greyness and then totally surrounded by an 8 foot high security fence that reminded e of Jurassic Park.. You need to press a buzzer to gain access into the parking lot, however the staff entrance gate is permanently open and should you want to go in a steal a car all you'd have to do is drive over a 3 inch curb to drive out!!!!!

On arrival you're given a delicious chocolate chip cookie as a welcome present which is a nice touch. The unfortunate thing was they contained walnuts which I'm allergic to so couldn't eat it, although my wife didn't seem to have much trouble eating both of them!!

When we checked in we we told we'd booked a "accessible" room and I asked what that was as it was booked through the British Airways executive club and was told it's a room for people with disabilities.. I said that if this was a problem then we could be moved but we were told we would be charged extra if we moved!! I said we'd stay were we were then as the only difference is the toilet is large and incorporates a bidet, there is only one chair and as my wife pointed out there was very little shelving and nowhere near the shower to hang a towel. Again not a problem I've had to stay in far worse.

I later noticed on TripAdvisor that a number of people had been given "accessible" rooms so I had a look around, the hotel has 4 on each of seven floors so 28 "accessible" rooms in total, so I imagine they offer tour operators a bargain price to utilise these rooms if they're not being used by people with disabilities.

The rooms have mini bar fridges but are only stocked with water and as you are only allowed 2 pots of milk, we used the fridge to put in some milk we bought. However the fridge wasn't working and we had a nice carton of cheese when we got back. We notified reception and went to get some more milk and put it in a sink full of water. When we came back in that day, we found the fridge had been repaired but the maid had cleaned the sink but left the milk on the side in a hot bathroom.. Carton of cheese number two!!!!

The shower which is obviously designed for people with disabilities was very poorly maintained and had mold growing in the sealant around the floor.

Probably my biggest let down with this hotel was a Nescafe coffee machine at breakfast, with only instant Nescafe in the room and remember you're only allowed 1 drink each!!!! Having instant machine coffee in Italy was just an insult to Barista's everywhere.

The outdoor pool, if you'd like to hang around Cell Block H, is open from April to October.

All in all I've stayed in worse hotels and if you're still reading I'd say check your room type before you book, if it's a Queen size then does it say Accessible???? If it is that's why it's a good price!! Buyer Beware!!

Thank you for your comments and analysis of our hotel. We have taken all aspects into consideration in order to improve where possible. With regards to the accessible rooms, the name 'accessible' is a Hilton standard and visible with the same name in 4000 Hilton hotels worldwide. In fact our website does explain what the word accessible refers to. We will however get in touch with the agent that you booked the room through in order to make sure they are making it clear about the room types they are selling. Kindest regards.

Hotel is literally 10min from the airport so very convenient. We stayed for 4 nights & really enjoyed our stay.
We were warmly welcomed by Enrico at reception who seems an absolutely genuine & lovely person.
We were very happy with our room as its all relatively new & in good condition.
Breakfast was okay but selection is not as large as other hotels. On the other hand, dinner in the restaurant was very good & we ate there on two nights.
Drinks were reasonably priced so we did indulge most nights!
The lovely Piero was always on hand in the restaurant & bar as well as the two other lady servers (whose names I didn't catch).
Car park was spacious & free for guests.
The pool area was nice but quiet and absolutely freezing pool water!
Great location for visiting Porto Cervo which is approx 30mins away.
The staff really make the hotel a great place to stay-hope the management realise & appreciate that!

The hotel is what you'd expect of a Doubletree. Furnishings and facilities are to American standard. Rooms are big and the staff is nice. The biggest drawback is that it is hidden in an out of the way place just outside of town. Even the Garmin GPS didn't find it. Eventually, a nice person took me there by driving in front of my car. The hotel address shown in Tripadvisor is WRONG. That (Via Isarco 5) will get you into the middle of the old town and you'll spend half an hour to find your way out!
