Location is great, but you only pay for that. The room was clean, but much smaller than described. The wifi didn't work good and there is no fridge in the room (the question is why not for a 3 star hotel by the beach?).

Seduced by the location of this hotel literally meters from the Mediterranean, we had booked for two nights one of their "deluxe rooms with sea view" and, let's admit it right away, the bay where this hotel is is splendid, and so is the view of the promontory and of the lighthouse that crowns it. It really is. However, you will have to repeat this to yourself, like a mantra, to try and overlook the many flaws which affect this hotel.

First, and even though that's not a "flaw" in and of itself, we were only on the ground floor and thus had very little privacy on our terrace. Try to get a room on the first or second floors. The room, although allegedly redone recently, already showed many signs of wear and tear. It was spartan, devoid of any decoration. The bed was wide and good quality, as well as the linens, but unfortunately came with those impossibly flat Italian pillows.

We went back out on the terrace with the gorgeous view, so as to try and dissipate the sad feeling from our very utilitarian room... and that’s when we started hearing the first airplane roaring above us in its final turn to align with the Cagliari runway... There were going to be many such other roaring planes, to the point that ear plugs are strongly recommended if you intend to sleep with the window open! Disappointing.

While on this chapter, know that sound insulation inside the hotel is minimal. You will hear your neighbors —and their children. Ear plugs, as I said.

On the bathroom front, things did not look much better. There was absolutely no shelf space to put things, the shower drain did not work well... Speaking of the shower, there is no flexible shower attachment, only one large shower head near the ceiling, which means that you better set the temperature right before stepping in, and is much more difficult to use, and even impossible to use when you intend to reach certain parts of your body!

This was by no means a "deluxe" room, nor a "deluxe" bathroom. Add to that the fact that the shower products were not replenished the next day, and that we had to ask for some, and you'll have the picture.

However, the most disappointing part was yet to come: the breakfast. First, it ends at 9:30... so, no sleeping in during your vacation! It’s good for you anyway. Or so they say. You can have your breakfast indoors or outdoors, benefiting to the full from that wonderful view, and that's a good thing, because there won't be very much to view in your plate: the selection of foods is very meager, and of low-price industrial quality. No hot food, no eggs, industrial jam in small plastic tubs, low-grade salami, tasteless yogurt, even the knives do not cut...! Definitely a very, very bad moment... except for the very many flies that seem to find the small buffet a good place to have a bite. You'll have to share with them as no repulsive measures appear to be in place.

In summary, and in spite of the (let's repeat it) superb view, I cannot recommend this hotel, which is charging 4-star prices and is providing 2-star amenities. As the last hotel of our Sardinian vacation, this was really a major disappointment.

One final word: it happens more and more often that hotel and restaurant owners and/or managers see fit to respond to reviews posted by their clients. Just remember, when you read those responses, that such owners/managers have a vested interest in selling you their services, where I have no vested interest whatsoever in expressing the personal and objective viewpoints expressed in this review.

Room tip: Room with sea view (others have nice view over parking lot) on 1st or 2nd floors, for privacy on balcony

It might be a little off the beaten path but this place is amazing! I just had the most wonderful dinner I could have with every single dish being simply beyond words.

Oysters, fresh tuna tartare, mussels and clams soup, local seafood spaghetti, and a mouth-watering tiramisu made it the best dinner I had during my stay in Cagliari.

I'm definitely going to get back before the end of my trip because I feel I need to try a lot of the other delicacies in the menu.

On top of that, the surroundings are simply unreal. My wife and I just had a spectacular dinner in a terrace only a few meters from the transparent sea - I couldn't imagine a more spectacular scenery than this one!

The hotel is situated in the Calamosca bay with a very nice see view. The hotel also has a private beach with a garden where you can relax and enjoy the view and the sea.
The hotel itself is dated, and in need of refurbishment.
Rooms are clean, on the small side and very basic.
The hotel personnel is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was a little bit disappointing, a very basic continental breakfast with cake and Italian cookies.
The a la carte restaurant offers a very decent and tastt lunch and dinner with Italian/Sardinian specialties

All in all we enjoyed our stay at hotel Calamosca

Great sea view, reasonably priced hotel. Breakfast not for the English! Who runs out of cheese everyday by 9 am? This hotel does. Sounds like a small thing , so fix it. Buy more cheese!! Maybe even go mad and boil some eggs or have a few tomatoes? Show willing Mr Hotel Owner. You have a hotel in an amazing location. Don't spoil it for a ha'peth of breakfast! !
