“Alghero is a hidden gem and well worth a visit.”

The secret of the success of this apartment is the location. The review is not able to fit it all in. There are three large supermarkets, all within 100 metres of the apartment. Not that you would notice as it took a few days to spot No.3. In the opposite direction there are real shops, the bakers, the greengrocer and the ironmonger.....not to mention the shop selling local wines in the mall downstairs. Take your own empty 5 litre container with you in your suitcase! This is how the local residents buy it. The cafe downstairs offers a friendly welcome but is only open from 7 am - 7 pm.

The wonderful promenade, the Bousquet, has been extended 200 metres and is now an excellent feature at the end of the road where you enter the beach. You can spend your holiday on the beach, all of life is there or will walk past. The shallow water makes it ideal for young children as well as allowing the sun to heat it.

Public transport is cheap and the apartment is again ideally placed. The rail station is close by for a spectacular train ride to Sassari and is then a focus for bus routes to Capo Caccia and Porto Conte. Don't forget to consider the even more spectacular bus ride to Bosa along the coast. There are many other interesting features to visit if you do not want to sit on the beach. Something to suit every interest.

“Great Location for Alghero Beach”
Reviewed 20 October 2011 for a stay in October 2011

I stayed in Annacaterina's apartment with my husband, daughter (3), son (1) and parents-in-law in October 2011. With Alghero your main choice of location is either the old town or the beaches. They are between 20-30 minutes stroll apart (along the lovely pedestrianised sea-front). As our children are small we chose the beach and this apartment was 5 minutes from the beginning of the beaches so as close to half way between the beaches and the old town as you can get. The apartment is on the 3rd floor with a small lift (just about big enough for the buggy). It is bright, nicely furnished and decorated with some lovely art work. The main bedroom is spacious with a king sized bed and great furnishings. There was a twin room - perfect for children and a single room which my daughter (3) loved. There is plenty of outdoor space on the 2 terraces.
Not much of a view (supermarket and police station across the road) but you can see the sun set over Capocaccia in the distance which was nice.
There was a 2 seater sofa in the living room, a dining table with 2 dining room chairs but we ate on the terrace anyway.
The kitchen was lovely with everything we needed though our 1 year old kept pulling the plug out of the fridge which was a bit dangerously placed - I think this may have been a temporary set up and hopefully has been changed by now.
There is a utility room/toilet off the kitchen - it was useful to have a second toilet. There is a washing machine and 2 large clothes airers that you could set up on one of the terraces. The main bathroom has a bath with a shower above it.
The terraces have decent outdoor furniture -big table, chairs, 2 arm chairs and a 2 seater plastic outdoor furniture with comfortable cushion seats provided and there is a lovely planted container garden. No insect screens (not a problem for us anyway as we stayed in October).
There is ample storage space and plenty of towels and linen provided. There were buckets and spades, beach mats, beach towels and playing cards there to use.
Annacaterina was excellent to deal with and arranged for a taxi to and from the airport (20euro).
