Although not worth making a special trip to see this, the brickwork and general architecture is sufficiently interesting that it is worth including on a walking tour if you are visiting other sites nearby.

Due to the design of the place this is a great place to shelter in the rain!

The buildings around this square originate from the 12th Century, although restored, it is a popular place for wedding photographs. Hardly surprising because the architecture is stunning for the period. I have to say that whilst the surrounding area is teaming with tourists, this square remains relatively quiet and peaceful. Well worth a gilimpse if you are passing by.

I can only review this building from an architectural and historical perspective as it does not open until 11.00am on a Sunday and our walking tour had long departed the piazza. The original building dated to the late 12th century but was destroyed by fire in 1218, however was rebuilt in 1219. During the Venetian period the building served as the City Administration, Courthouse, Prison and held offices for many other administrative functions of the City and also included a Chapel. It was the centre of power in Verona.
The building was extensively restored and is believed to closely resemble the original structure and incorporates structures added during the 15th century. Impressive structure on the outside and since 2014 a modern museum.

Even if you aren't into modern art, this museum is well worth a visit, particularly if you use the excellent value Verona Tourist Card. Sitting in an interesting square, the museum has some very interesting exhibits, covering a wide ranger of styles and history, not just modern art, which is limited to just a few galleries.
