i spent 5 nights in the Hotel Scalzi in August. the hotel is ideally situated approx 10 mins walk to the station and 10 mins to Piazza Bra. it was clean, the staff were friendly - and spoke English- and breakfast ,by Italian standards was plentiful. Tea and coffee were made to order! My room would have been a little small if there were two of us but for one it was fine. It had a very nice shower room and proper towels! (not the usual Italian towels that resemble kitchen towel!) Worth staying in and yes i would go back to it again.

This hotel had mixed reviews but we went ahead after several better recommended options came back full. We had two rooms. Both were incredibly small and dark and although the hotel assured us they were just across the courtyard, to reach each we had to walk miles through a labyrinth of corridors in two different directions. Opening the courtyard door in our room was impossible anyway because the bed was in the way. In fact with two people and two suitcases in the room it was almost impossible to move around. We had booked months in advance and we did get a quick glance into some other rooms which looked bigger and a lot brighter than our broom closet so are not sure why we got the ones we did. To be fair the rooms are very trendy and pretty well kept. On the flip side our bed was of the type you would usually use as a spare rollaway and felt like it. The breakfast was extraordinarily average. We didn't bother on day 2. The staff are very watchful - to the extent that as we walked through reception on checkout day nearly two hours prior to departure we were called back so they could remind us what time we had to leave.
The location is fine. It is a brisk 15 minute walk to the opera and the buzz of the old part of the town. We left this hotel feeling that of all the places we stayed on our four week trip this was the worst value and the least relaxed and welcoming.

We stayed here for two nights to see an opera n the arena. It's a short walk form the train station but at the edge of the old city proper. The outside is a dowdy yellow, but inside it varied from old 'continental' style to ultra modern glass and bare new wood in our split level room, with frosted glass separating the modern bathroom from the living area and bare timber beams and timber ceiling on the mezzanine sleeping area. The staff were lovely and friendly, they let us use the reception computer and printer to print our boarding pass for our return flight.

Breakfast was fine, a selection of fruit, cold meats/cheese and pastries and coffee made to order.

It was about 7mins to Castelveccio and a teeny bit longer to the Arena or Piazza Bra.

We'd aircon in our room which was a lifesaver as it was in the mid 30's when we visited.

Proximity to the Verona train station was more of an issue for us as we were only staying one night and had a morning train to catch. But I really liked this hotel inside, for its lack of IKEA-like furniture and cookie-cutter styling. We didn't find the evening walk from the centre of the town too ominous, but perhaps in the cold of winter or heat of summer it might be considered a disadvantage. Breakfast was simple, but we were already accustomed to that after two nights in Venice. We paid 90 Euro - the rate advertised on the hotel's own website and were happy with that. I gather you pay more for hotel rooms in Verona during the opera season.

Stayed here as part of a European roadtrip. From the outside i have to say we were a little concerned but when we got inside our fears were gone...its a rustic town hotel with a modern interior twist....perfect. Our room was big, had a small balcony, and AIR CON!!!!! Given it'd been about 35deg that day this was a godsend! The bathroom was large and everywhere was clean. Its true its about a 10-15 min walk to the mix, but its a nice walk and it also means you don't get woken up in the middle of the night! Only moan is that parking isn't easy (we parked other side of the river and packed a night bag to take back to the hotel), and that our price was high but i put that down to seasonality. Otherwise the staff there were very friendly, and i'd defo recommend to a friend.
