Albeit the hotel location never bothered me, out of the center in an industrial area, I have been coming here for a few years because it has this lovely rooftop spa + huge rooftop terrace with a 270° view, and large parking free of charge and a shuttle service to the old town.
I can witness that this hotel is now becoming a soulless place without much customer service or focus on IHG status customers. In the past I would be systematically upgraded in a superior room and my preferences recognized, whether the hotel would be full or not (Quiet room, double bed, high floor,etc..).
Albeit during my last stay 1 year ago I was shocked by the dirt, room floor and bathroom were not tidy, hairs everywhere (they discounted the room price as a settlment) so I decided to return this year after receiving the GM excuses.
This time we've arrived for a 2 night stay (with a booking done more than 1 month ahead), we started our disastrous stay experience by not being able to enter the reception area with our baby prem, as the staff kept the regular 2 side doors, next to the revolving one, closed w/o key available, then they pretended the booking was for 1 night, while my direct IHG booking at hand stated 2 nights with all my profile specifics mentionned.
Then for the 1st time in years we were told they would not upgrade us they were "fully booked so impossible to upgrade you", which puzzled me when the hotel is filled with transiting tourists groups like it was that week (with hords of very loud North American tourists and bus loads of Asian tourists stopping for 1 night in Verona) how come their superior rooms would be not be kept and given to high status returning customer who booked several weeks ahead. Why to upgrade a passing vacationer ? while their system, as in any good hotel, show we're returning customers for 10 years now.
Only after insisting they agreed to upgrade us for the 2nd night and we then found out that the requested quiet room we were given was across the lift, the noisiest space of any floor. We decided to stick to that bad room rather than move another time before changing to a larger one it was already 30 Mns we were struggling with receptionists, naturally there was no pre installed cot, requested in my booking and was finally delivered latter on, all showing that the room was not prepared for our arrival (we got there at 19h30, no excuses possible) and a very amateurish hospitality management, mirroring quality level of a highway motel than a 4* CP.
The next day, we found that the "upgrade" was not a real one, they put us in a twin bed room (moving from a double bed room) which was very disrespectful, knowing that on that day most of the rooms got free with the departures of the huge north American tourist group having left, they could have easily put us in a doule bed superior where they used to set me up. As stated, amateurish management.
The hotel regulat doors were constantly locked, forbidding us to come and go as we wanted with the baby puscart, the personal was frequently not manning the reception and we had to wait in the cold till someone would show up to open the side door, or we would walk in and call (shout) for someone to show up.
Their shuttle to the city center was no lesser disappointment, with the 1st leaving at 11h and the last returning at 17h, completely useless if you want to leave your car at the venue to spend a day in Verona, not mentionning having diner there.
They had no baby seat on board of the bus so we ended up taking the public bus instead of their "free" but useless shuttle.
We stayed there during the week after easter, there was no event in Verona, except tourism, and this hotel is now flooded with organized groups, we paid 208 Euros for 2 nights. If this place would be better served, and closer to its Brand values, not mentionning honoring returning customers with a high status with the chain, this hotel would desserve 4 out of 5. Seeing the way this place is being managed, it is not worth more than 60 to 70Euro a night, considering its location
Wether you are an IHG reward club member or not, be ready to be disappointed, Better stay in town, any other hotel will have a better value for your money, unless you want to sleep close to the hgihway and have no interest in being in Verona at all (The hotel is far and has a ghostly shuttle service).
Wifi is not free wifi to non IHG reward club member, quiet anachronic in 2019
