“Great location, nice hotel, helpful staff”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

I loved this hotel. A little difficult to find, but there's always someone around to help you if you're willing to ask. Good breakfast, pleasant room, wonderful service. All the staff were more than happy to assist you. Most rooms look down a very pretty courtyard. While the rooms and public areas are small (typical of Europe) they were well kept and the windows/doors are kept open during nice weather. Free use of the Internet in the common area. There were two small patios smokers could use - I don't smoke but enjoyed some solitude outside a few times. Will definitely return to this hotel.

We were so very happy with our choice of this hotel in Venice. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are stylish and comfortable. We were very happy with the location even it took us an hour and a half to find it amongst the maze of alleyways and little streets from our drop off point in San Marco square even though it was actually only a 3 to 4 minute walk from the square. When we eventually found the hotel with the help of directions from a number of other hotels we came across, the extremely helpful man at reception gave us a new map and showed us the most direct way to find the hotel. We had tried using the map emailed to us by the hotel when we booked however it was not clear enough and created much confusion in our search. Most of the maps available in Venice do not show the names of all of the streets, courtyards and alley ways. I would recommend going on to google maps and printing the directions before you attempt to check in.The free wifi did not always work with our lap top but the very patient man on reception was always extremely helpful when it came to getting online and finding any information they needed. The hotel had some much better maps that are alot more comprehensive and whoever was on reception at the time was always extremely helpful in directing us to whatever we wanted to find. They were also wonderful in explaining the best way to get to the airport on the Alilaguna which had a stop close by and only cost 15 euro as opposed to a private water taxi that was 120 euro. Breakfast was good and the dining rooms small but adequate. I could not recommend this place highly enough.

My fiance and I spent two nights here in a room overlooking the courtyard and we absolutely loved it. The room was clean and well presented and the bed was very comfortable. They also provided a delicous very substantial breakfast. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great as it was close to St Marks Square and surprisingly quiet as it was located inside a courtyard.

Room Tip: Ask for a room opening on to the courtyard.

My boyfriend and I initially booked Hotel Serenissima however when we arrived this was being renovated and we were upgraded to the sister hotel; Hotel Al Codega. This hotel was very classic and beautiful, the rooms were large and finely decorated. The service at the hotel was friendly and helpful as soon as we arrived our luggage was taken to our room for us. The breakfast was very nice and varied for guests from all over the world. The hotel is in a great, quiet spot close to all main squares and attractions. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, highly recommended.

Another posted last year wrote really great directions to get to the hotel (which is confusing)....I took it upon myself to re-write these directions, and add more explanation where needed. I hope this helps everyone!

Everyone arrives in Venice from one of two areas, the train station, or the airport. Either way you want to find the boat Vaporetto 1 or 2, and make sure it stops at Rialto. There is another stop called Rialto Mercato…do not stop here! Just get off at the plain old Rialto.

When you get off the boat and the ramp, turn right and walk for a few hundred feet. On the right will be the canal, and the left will be various restaurants. Look for Ristorante Omnibus and another called Self Service. There are tons of restaurants called Self Service, so make sure you first find Omnibus, and then find the Self Service. By Self Service there is an alleyway right by Hotel La Commedia (look up and you'll see it). Walk down this alleyway for a minute or so until you get to a small square where there are two small alleys in front of you. Choose the one on the left.

Walk down here for less than a minute, and you'll see Hotel Serenissima, and at the end of the alley you'll see the Giorgio Armani Shop. Please note that you should use this square and this shop as your compass whenever you go out. This is an easy square to find, and when you see this store, it's VERY EASY to get to the hotel.

When you get to the Armani Shop, stop. To the left is Hotel Bonvecchiati, and to the right there is a small alleyway. Go through this alley. When walking through look towards the right, and there will be a small entrance into another alleyway. If you go under an archway that says Sotta Portego De La Malvasia, you went too far. But while in this alleyway you'll again see the small passageway on the right stating "Malvasia", and then "Sotto Portego Del Forno Vechhio". You will see the hotel then.

To be honest, this seems very difficult, however it's very easy if you follow these instructions. Again, 10 minutes or so from the Rialto. Also, once you get there and start to explore, this is VERY CLOSE to St. Mark's.
