“Well located, clean and efficient”
Reviewed 1 October 2010

Don’t let the “monastery” tag fool you. Once you get into the building you would think you are in any modern hotel. The rooms are well appointed. Very clean and spacious. The check-in & checkout procedure was efficient, the staff very friendly and helpful.

The location may not be what a honeymoon couple would look for as there is no view of the canal. But if you are like me and just want an affordable, clean room to sleep in then this is just perfect. The hotel is just 50 mtrs from the Accademia & Zattere vaporetto stops. I realized how important that was when I saw lots of people dragging suitcases through narrow crowded streets and over bridges getting to their rooms. Trust me – you don’t want to be dragging suitcases over any distance in Venice!

The breakfast was adequate and typical of most Italian hotels. They provide a fast Wi-Fi connection at an extra charge.

In short – highly recommended. I will stay there again if I ever get lucky enough to be able to see Venice again.

Although we booked this stay through a convent/monastery booking service, this is far from being either. It has been recently renovated with amenities to match most contemporary hotels. It was easy to reach via the vaporetto from the Santa Lucia train station. Once you arrive at the Zaterre stop, you'll find the monumental facade of the Church of Gesuati just a few steps away. Begin walking along the right-hand side of the church, away from the water. The entrance to the Centro is less than a block behind the church. We were able to reach the hotel with our luggage in tow without much effort.

We paid 140 euros ($210 USD) per night for two nights plus a 127 euro ($190) booking/processing fee through monasterystays.com.

The rooms are comfortable, with large windows and baths. We arrived on a Saturday evening, and we were given a double room with a private bath and two single beds pushed together. The room was simply furnished and clean, but our sink stopper broke while the sink was full of water. We called the hotel staff but were informed it couldn’t be fixed until Monday morning – they day we were checking out. After a night of using the shower to wash our hands and brush our teeth, we dropped by the front desk the next morning, and they offered to move us to another available room. This time, we were able to request a queen-size bed, which was nice. The décor in this wing was a bit different, but still clean. The view was very nice.

In my opinion, the breakfast was very disappointing; there wasn't a large selection of food, and they continually ran out of items. The cappuccino was really good, even though it was made by a self-serve machine. The hotel is located not far from a large grocery store, where we purchased snacks. We enjoyed observing the differences between Italian and US markets. Between the grocery and Centro Culturale, there is a great pizzeria that was suggested to us by a person at the front desk; it was full of tourists and locals alike.

One of our favorite aspects about this hotel was its location in Dorsoduro, AWAY from the highly touristy areas. It was quiet and relaxing near the hotel.

They took us in when the Galleria, just down the street, would not honor our reservation. The rooms were simple but spacious, with bathrooms en suite. There is wi-fi when it works, for a fee. Breakfasts were just fine, and you can take your food into the courtyard and enjoy the morning light. Transportation from the airport is easy via the Alilaguna, and it is very close to the Accademia vaporetto stop. I would be very happy to stay here again.

We loved Venice and stayed at the Don Orione after coming off the Queen Victoria cruise ship. I was looking for cheaper accommodation and checked our the monastery / convent options. Was delighted to come across this one and was sold on it as it looked so clean (and dust-free - important as my daughter has dustmite allergy), without being too stark and impersonal. (My daughter did not sneeze once!) We were very happy with the friendliness and service right from the moment of booking (direct via email). As I asked for a triple room, we were offered the choice of a large double and single or 3 singles. All emailed queries were handled immediately including advice on the best way to get from the ship to the location. And the location is excellent, between Zattere and Accademia. The religious aspect is minimal and the modern design incorporates the sites history. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our luggage (as we arrived early) and head off for our prebooked Secret Itineraries tour of the Doges Palace (about 5-10 minutes walk or next stop on the waterbus). The only slight drawback was the (continental) breakfast, some fruit would have been nice, but it was enough to see you through until lunch.
Highly recommended.

Don't let the category religious place fool you - this is one modern hotel! They had completely renovated the place that it contains state-of-the-art lighting, fixtures, etc.

I liked that the hotel is located away from the hub of things. It was quiet, very clean, and spacious. The room that was given to us (there were 3 of us) was big and the bathroom was almost as big as the room itself.

The place is also very close to the vaporetto stops (there's 2 - 1 on each side of the hotel). There are also restaurants near the area.

This hotel is located just one stop away from Piazza San Marco and the Basilica.

Highly recommended!!
