Owner description: This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

“Not Much to See”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

A small island that the guide book tells us used to have a population of 20000 people. Nowadays, it has a very small population and only one item of note to visit - the Byzantine Cathedral. Worth a look, but don't expect to stay there longer than about an hour.

“The first Venice”

This wonderful church was the cathedral of Venice before the move to the city's present position. The mosaics are both beautiful and moving.

“Stone's throw from Burano”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2012

For the time of year that we were there it was rather quiet. Half a boat load of tourists disembark with us. The church is worth a visit and any of the restaurants/bistro is worth a stop and having your favourite beverage....and taking in the serenity of the island.

“beautiful mosaics and lovely spots for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 December 2011

If you're looking for cats in Venice, Torcello is the place to go. The two churches are very different and well worth the entrace fee to view the lovely mosaics. We didn't visit the small museum by the side though. There was an artist in the square in front of the church who did lovely bright water colours. The walk from the jetty to the main square with the churches will take you past a number of restaurants, with beautiful gardens. They seem like lovely spots for weddings and other functions.
