Arriving with 6 bags and not speaking a word of Italian...We found the manager Alex greeted us with a big smile and helped us two girls carrying all our bags up the stairs to the third floor! The building is charming and the rooms are spacious and clean.

Spending New years Eve2009 there is the best high light of my trip in Italy. The location is central and is within 5 to 20 min walking distant to most places in this Romantic City of love.

As this is my first back-packing experiance, personally, i would rate this 10 out of 10...My girl friend is well-travelled all over the world, and she also think is one of the best hostel she had been. Please do not be put off by past comments, as i understood the managerment is changed since a months ago...

Water is always hot for shower and there is even a bath in the second floor! Kitchen is good with a charming court yard...and we could use our lap top with Wifi...

We met people there from Spain, South America, Italy, Asia and Africa...And imagin with such a group, we had an amazing night at Saint Marco Square with water up to our keens to welcome 2010 with lots of Cheers, Fire work and kisses!!!

I stayed at this hostel while backpacking through Italy in the Summer of 2006. I arrived at the Hostel before the rest of my group and was immediately struck by the terrible condition of this hostel. We were put up in an off-site two bedroom appt. about 10-15 minutes away from the Hostel. At this appt we were provided with a broken tv, unplugged fridge, cots, an inoperable washing machine and a broken key.

All problems were met by a simple response from the owner/manager of "Do not make festival." Only stay here if you absolutely have no other choice.

Stayed at B & B Rota October 2005. It is as bad as all the other reviewers have said. I'm still furious over our stay in that filthy dump.

Does anyone out there know how to report them to the health department in Venice?

Seriously, they should be closed down!
This dump was the worst we have ever stayed at....ever!

This place may be cheap and it may be right by the Rialto Bridge but the room I got with my friend was terrible. It was wierd because on the phone the man kept asking if my frieind was asian for some reason because of here asian name so it basically steam rolled from there. Who casre if we're asian anyway. Although it's called B&B Rota it's really a hostel. We got a room on the ground floor of another building with surprisingly a washroom in it with no lights and only one light in the room. Shared with two other people. The windows had bars on them with no screeens and there were two cots and a rickety old bunk bed that was for me and my friend.

As soon as we got there they took our passport information(standard) and then asked for the money right away. We said we would pay later and thank god we did. After seeing the room and asking around we found out that this place is a big scam. It's actually three places. There's the place where we entered on the first floor, then theres the third floor of the building which has a different name but same owner and then the other building which we got our room. Very dodgy. Long story short we got out of there that night. We tried to switch rooms and they were all booked and after a heated conversation with the owner about the terrible room it was time to leave. Even though very affordable you can get into a nice bed and breakfast for just ten american dollars more. I wish I took pictures to show the terrible room we had. You would not stay there yourself.

Positives - Great location near the Rialto Bridge, easy to find, close to food places. BUT.... Negatives - The building and rooms are very run down, it is dark and dingy and smelly. It could be ice with a bit of work and personality. We were kept awake all night from a bar downstairs. The owner seems quite dodgy and dissapeared when we asked for our breakfast vouchers, we finally got them it was midday the next day. We got used to the scared look on faces of new arrivals. (They have the same "What have I got myself into" look.. ) All in all no major hassles, a bit creepy but if you're not fussy the location is maybe worth it, as Venice is incredible!!!
