I would say this hotel is very 'cosy' and decorated in a traditional Venetian style so if you want a modern hotel this is not for you BUT you cannot beat the location, minutes from the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square and Chanel, Gucci etc.! We booked a Superior Room but unfortunately it was on the third floor with 59 steps to deal with so maybe check what room you have before you arrive unless you are super fit. Also the room was above the Gondola Station and a little noisy at times but we quite liked the buzz. The staff were very welcoming, knowledgable and helpful. There was a good selection of 'continental goodies' for breakfast but the breakfast room is very small with only five tables which made it awkward as we were a party of six and it is first come first served. We pre-booked our Water Taxi through BA but this was not necessary as you can easily pick up one at the airport at least 35 euros cheaper (all licensed taxis).

On arriving at Venice Airport, we caught the water taxi to take us to S.Marco (Vallaresso) which is the stop near Hotel Lisbona. Beware that the water taxis are slow and don't go direct, but go via other stops i.e. Murano. This can be quite lengthy in time if you just got off a long flight! The quickest way would be by the speedboat taxis but at a cost of 120euro seemed too costly for us. For the water taxi we got the cost was 27euro return each. We were soon at the Hotel Lisbona for our 3 night stay and it was easy to find but once there beware of the stairs - there is no lift! We knew this when we booked and felt it added to the charm of the Hotel. Unless you request a lower room, our room was on the top floor and the first lot of stairs was 36 with more stairs to come. Lifting luggage up this staircase is not easy but the front desk helped me with my suitcase. Our room was a standard room, but beware of the bath/showers. The one in our room was very difficult to get in and seem to have only a small area to stand. Also we noted not many power points in the room or bathroom. We only had one in the bathroom which was on the opposite side from the bathroom sink, so we had to put a chair so we could recharge our phones. We didn't have a balcony but could look out and down the canal and watch the amount of gondolas going by. Although this can be noisy we just enjoyed the hustle and bustle and of course the singing! A very comfortable bed and with the hotel being so well situated, we were soon right in the heart of St Mark's square, breathtaking! Breakfast was very good and had a selection of cereal, pastries, salami, cheese etc with a coffee machine, all fresh and tasty. Thank you to Hotel Lisbona for such a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor

This is a vintage hotel but our bathroom was amazing. we stayed on the top floor over looking the canal which was a little noisy both worth it. Be aware there is no lift so probably not a good idea if you have issues with stairs. The free breakfast was awesome

We booked this hotel a day in advance of a cruise. The hotel is easy to access being about 3 short blocks from the San Marco dock and a quick 2 blocks from St Mark's square. This is a small vintage hotel in which fortunately the bathrooms have been updated with modern fixtures and fresh tile. Our room looked down on one of the narrow side canals and being on the third floor was about 75 steps up a narrow very steep staircase (no elevator). The desk attendant fortunately carried my wife's bag up those three floors. Much of the hotel and our room was covered in red velvet paper reminiscent of a vintage western saloon or brothel. Overall the room was reasonable size and comfortable though there was some day noise from the waiting gondola crews in the canal below. Breakfast was included and it was fairly generous with a variety of juices, coffees, fruits, cereals, pastries, breads and cold cuts. As someone else indicated, if you booked online, be prepared to pay the city tax in cash.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor

We stayed in room 34 on the third floor - be aware there is no lift (which was not a problem for us).

Our room had 2 windows which gave us a great view overlooking the canals and allowed us to listen to the gondoliers music and singing.

The windows are double glazed and have external shutters which made the room quite dark and relatively soundproof.

The room is typically sized for a European hotel; the bathroom was spacious enough and the the bed was comfortable. Basic toiletries are provided.

Not that we used it, but the TV was tiny and an old tube type of tele.

Breakfast was basic - but plentiful. Pastrys, cereal, bread rolls, cold meats, pancakes, etc. The coffee machine was a great bonus.

The staff were all very friendly and helpfull throughout our stay and booked a water taxi back to the Railway Station for us (taxi is €70).

The hotel does not have it's own water taxi pier but there are 2 that are close by.

We would definitely stay at Lisbona again.
