We just spent 10 days on our first visit to Italy. We stayed at Ca Pisani for two nights. Prior to our visit, I sent a couple of emails with questions about early check in etc and received cordial replies. We took the Ali Laguna boat from the airport. Ca Pisani was a very short walk from the Zattere stop - which was greatly appreciated after an overnight flight. We arrived early, but our room was ready and we were able to check right in - again, a wonderful thing after an overnight flight! The location of the hotel is great for walking about Venice - close to the sights, but also on a fairly quiet street. No view from our room, but who cares! You are only in your room to put your feet up. The bathroom was fabulous and the bed was comfortable with nice linens. Breakfast was another treat. The food is set up buffet style and there was lots of choice. There was wait staff to take your coffee order, and they graciously served you at your table. GREAT COFFEE, but of course you could have tea if you preferred. One evening we attended a "happy hour" where we were greeted by the landlady and enjoyed complimentary wine and snacks. Sitting outside at the little bistro tables and watching the world go by was a lovely start to the evening. The desk staff made us train reservations for Florence, which was a real convenience for us. A little tip from one first-timer to another - don't judge Venice by the huge crowds that congregate around St. Mark's Square in the middle of the day. When we first arrived and walked about I was disappointed and feared visiting Venice might have been a mistake. We found early to mid-morning and late afternoon and evening are absolutely magical in Venice. Also, the guidebooks that say "get lost in Venice" are absolutely true. You will get lost, but you won't much care...it is a lovely, lovely place.
