“Oasis in Venice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2012

We just spent 10 days on our first visit to Italy. We stayed at Ca Pisani for two nights. Prior to our visit, I sent a couple of emails with questions about early check in etc and received cordial replies. We took the Ali Laguna boat from the airport. Ca Pisani was a very short walk from the Zattere stop - which was greatly appreciated after an overnight flight. We arrived early, but our room was ready and we were able to check right in - again, a wonderful thing after an overnight flight! The location of the hotel is great for walking about Venice - close to the sights, but also on a fairly quiet street. No view from our room, but who cares! You are only in your room to put your feet up. The bathroom was fabulous and the bed was comfortable with nice linens. Breakfast was another treat. The food is set up buffet style and there was lots of choice. There was wait staff to take your coffee order, and they graciously served you at your table. GREAT COFFEE, but of course you could have tea if you preferred. One evening we attended a "happy hour" where we were greeted by the landlady and enjoyed complimentary wine and snacks. Sitting outside at the little bistro tables and watching the world go by was a lovely start to the evening. The desk staff made us train reservations for Florence, which was a real convenience for us. A little tip from one first-timer to another - don't judge Venice by the huge crowds that congregate around St. Mark's Square in the middle of the day. When we first arrived and walked about I was disappointed and feared visiting Venice might have been a mistake. We found early to mid-morning and late afternoon and evening are absolutely magical in Venice. Also, the guidebooks that say "get lost in Venice" are absolutely true. You will get lost, but you won't much care...it is a lovely, lovely place.

Classy, sophisticated hotel in a great location for the less visited but very interesting Dorsoduro area. There are plenty of good food places, museums and shops in the area. Really close to Academia and Zattere bus stops, virtually either end of the street the hotel is on. All the St Marks square is literally 10 to 15 minutes stroll away across the Academia bridge. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic, comfortable and very well appointed. I would stay there again and recommend it to everyone.

Stayed at Ca’Pisani for 5 days recently. As others have mentioned, the location simply cannot be beat. We were there during a very busy time including the weekend of the Regatta, so in general it was crowded everywhere. If you are into oppressive crowds then stay in a hotel by St Mark’s square. Personally after witnessing that mess, I would not stay in that area even if the hotel was free. On the other hand, even though the island was very crowded, it is really like a different world around Ca’Pisani, and if you want to avoid crowds and the mobs of people that crowd around the Square and the Rialto areas , and yet still be in a very convenient location, this hotel will be perfect for you.. Crowds are much less problematic with nice walks and views everywhere without constantly bumping into people. As others have noted, this is no shortage of excellent restaurants and transportation within very easy walking distance.

The hotel itself is very nice and its 4 star designation, I believe is correct. As a small boutique hotel, it does not offer the service level and amenities of higher- end 5 star properties, but unless you just absolutely need that, this is still a very good hotel. The staff is uniformly very good to excellent and very helpful with recommendations for attractions, sightseeing and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. There are no rooms with water views, so if you need that, you will need to look elsewhere, but of course, once you leave the hotel you get more than your fill of water views all day, so I feel it is more important to come back at the end of a long day to a well-appointed comfortable room.

I have only one complaint: the breakfast offered each morning is sub-optimal. We ate there a couple times; once early and once a little later, but then chose to eat elsewhere even though the b’fast is included in the room charge…it just wasn’t very good. Breads were not as fresh as they could be, the coffee was only luke-warm, and the buffet style scrambled eggs were not replenished and both times we found only a few lumps of dried eggs. While it’s nice when a hotel offers breakfast, at the price point of this hotel, the breakfast should be of very high quality or else it should not be offered… most people I believe would rather pay for a decent breakfast to start the day.

Other than that, I highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

dear bigpain,
thank you very much for your nice review. it is wonderful when guests decide to dedicate some of their time in writing about their experience(s) at 'ca' pisani'.
the location is actually one of the reasons why guests choose to stay here: the area where the hotel is, in fact, is very central, but at the same time out of the crowds usually found around Saint Mark's.
regarding the fact we have no rooms with water views, even if it is correct to say that we do not overlook the water, I would like to take the chance to add that from a few rooms you can see (in the distance, through) either the Grand Canal or the Giudecca canal.
last (bus absolutely not least), breakfast: to be honest I am quite surprised because 99% of people staying here are so happy about it: choice, quality and value. if you could write to me I would be delighted to hear more about this aspect.
of course, I apologise if you were not 100% satisfied, and really hope to have the pleasure to welcome you here again, as you wrote!
all the best,
marianna serandrei

From the time we entered through the front door until we left we felt the inviting and friendly vibe of the place.
The architecture of the room was one of a kind. Not large livingroom but great bedroom area. The bathroom has excelent fittings and that made our stay quite pleasant. You know how it is to go to a hotel with "poor shower" equipment. It can ruin your vacation!
We can't say enough to praise the staff. everyone had one big smile on their face everytime you had a request or needed information.
One night we had dinner on the terrace. The food was superb and the view worth a million bucks.
The Breakfast was included and it was ten times better than expected. You can squize your own oranges.
I know for sure that from now on, Ca'Pisani will be our "home away from home" when in Venice.
