5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2012

A group of 9 of us stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and not one complaint. Right from making the reservation to actually arriving (wonderful directions from Claudio) the experience was amazing and we will certainly return. Nothing fancy but well maintained and comfortable. Thank you to Mirella, Claudio, Frederiko and Ilaria for your kindness and hospitality

We've stayed at this hotel in Venice twice, now, and love it. Nothing really fancy, but the AC works well (important in hot, muggy Venice summers); the location is far enough from St. Marco to avoid "the zoo" but handy enough to the vaporetto stop to avoid an overly long shlep of luggage from the stop to the hotel. Nice people at the hotel, good restaurants nearby, easy walking distance to anywhere in the city.

We stayed at the Hotel Al Piave for three nights at the end of a one month romp starting in Palermo and ending in Milan. During our trip we stayed in several three star hotels and found Hotel Al Piave to be one of the nicer ones and very reasonably priced for Venice. The hotel was well located just off of a large square and a short walk to St. Marks. Many good restaurants were within walking distance. Other reviews said their rooms were small but the two of us had a large family room with a king size bed and a single bed in the main room and another single bed in a small alcove with a little balcony overlooking the courtyard of the hotel. A family of four would have been very comfortable in the room. Although the room had two windows we were on the first floor (one up from the ground floor in Italy) and the sun only shone in for a few hours of the day which I suspect is common for any lower floor in Venice that doesn't front on a canal. Street noise isn't much of an issue in Venice but I was astounded that you could hear every word spoken by people walking by in the alley during the day. Night was very quiet although mosquitoes can be a problem if it is warm. I was buzzed by one on a warmer night so we closed the windows and ran the air conditioning which worked fine. The bathroom was the best we encountered in Italy with lots of hooks for towels, a large sink with plenty of counter space and shelves, and shelves in the shower stall (which was smaller than US standards but fine if you aren't extremely tall). Water pressure was the best we encountered in Italy and the bathroom was spotless. The beds were firm but comfortable. The hotel offered the best breakfast of all the hotels we stayed in including the four star hotel in Milan. They had pastries, rolls, croissants, cold meats, cheese, fresh fruit salad, jams, butter, yogurt, cereal, and also scrambled eggs which was rare in a three star hotel. They also prepared any style and quantity of coffee you desired. The staff at the front desk during the day and at night were friendly, spoke excellent English, and were a wealth of knowledge about Venice. They were very responsive to any requests. I would certainly stay here again if I return to Venice! My only complaint was for Venice in general--I have asthma and found I wheezed and coughed during my entire time in the city as everything was somewhat damp and probably moldy.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different and the staff is willing to let you check them out if they are not full...

We enjoyed our three night stay at the Al Piave this June. The hotel is in a quiet location, not far from St Marks Sq and the San Zaccaria boat stop. The room and bathroom, while small, were very clean. There was plenty of hot water and the air conditioning worked well. Our room overlooked the courtyard and was nice an quite, Breakfast was good. I especially liked the large cups of very good cappuccino. They also made some excellent cakes.

Room Tip: Our room on the courtyard was quiet,

We took the train from Rome to Venice...get your boarding pass/tixs before your scheduled to depart (we did a couple of days prior), and went ahead and did boarding pass for the remainder of the trip (cost 10 euro per ticket), but then no more lines...Then just remember to valid your tixs at the the train station...or, if using a Europass? Then writing in the date of travel...otherwise you can get fined...

Took a water taxi to the Hotel Al Piave (the ticket booth likes exact change, and won't change larger bills, validate your ticket before you get on the boat...or a fine)...then following their directions to their hotel...Finding your way in Venice is an adventure...be prepared to get lost, then no worries...The hotel is on a tiny street, next to a fresh fruit/vegetable store, and a grocery shop...laundry facility a block down...

Nice hotel, we got upgraded to an apartment, that was more house..with 3 floors, could sleep 6 people (only the 2 of us)...the apartment is around the corner from the hotel down a small alleyway that only people living off this alley used...Very charming and quite....Full kitchen, wash machine, clothes line off 2nd floor, big screen TV, large bedroom, large bathroom, dining room...we loved this place!...They serve a very nice breakfast in the morning...Staff is very friendly and accommodating...Getting a good map also helps in the city itself...We got lost a few times, but found wonderful things/places along the way...

You can get a gondola crossing the first bridge pass the hotel...Or keep walking and following the 'yellow' signs and you can either go to the Rialto Bridge, or to the St Mark Square/ Doge's palace...Not much further is the Academia and Peggy G museum...

Can't wait to go back...Venice is a fun city...with lots to do...and the Hotel Al Piave is a home away from home... : )

Room Tip: Upgrade to the 'studio' or the 'apartment' if you can...Very well worth it.
