Owner description: A patrician residence at San Stae, Palazzo Mocenigo houses valuable 18th century artworks and is also home to the Study Centre for the History of Textiles and Costumes. A fine selection of rare textiles and costumes of particular importance are displayed. The collection is laid out with a significant importance given to garments and accessories. Mainly of Venetian origin, the works are often embellished with lace and embroidery, skills of several artisans who made such a contribution to that refined luxury and elegance for which the Venetians of those days were famous for.

This shows the life of nobility in Venice in very well. No religious artifacts and art work, but really practical stuff that is worth viewing. A large section is all anout the perfiume industry in Venice which is really interseting.

We were taking a stroll when we came across Palazzo Mocenigo. We had a quick look, but decided against going inside for a visit, not our cup of tea....

I doubt that many tourists put this museum on their list when visiting Venice, but if you're staying a bit longer, do, because you won't regret it. We took the long walk from the Fish Market and that in itself, was a JOY! You'll get lost but it's worthwhile and you won't regret it. The museum has the Storp collection of perfume bottles, the largest in the world, housed in a gorgeous palace. The video is also in English and well done to appreciate this landmark collection.

It is supposed to be about perfume and the making of perfume. Lots of displays of spices, etc that make perfume, a distillery, and pretty bottles- with that said, it's a creepy place- all the walls covered in red thick wallpaper, subliminal hyper sexual tones displayed by the way everything else is set up. Plastic baby's head with a third eye glued to the forehead, head of Baphomet with earrings up on wall! It was like I was on the movie "EYES WIDE SHUT". Needed a shower when I left, felt gross.

The descriptions of this museum seemed to imply that it involved a variety of costume and fashion displays. It does not. There are some items, but it is not the main focus. Perfume is the main focus. There are very interesting displays on the creation and usage of perfumes.
