Owner description: A patrician residence at San Stae, Palazzo Mocenigo houses valuable 18th century artworks and is also home to the Study Centre for the History of Textiles and Costumes. A fine selection of rare textiles and costumes of particular importance are displayed. The collection is laid out with a significant importance given to garments and accessories. Mainly of Venetian origin, the works are often embellished with lace and embroidery, skills of several artisans who made such a contribution to that refined luxury and elegance for which the Venetians of those days were famous for.

It is supposed to be about perfume and the making of perfume. Lots of displays of spices, etc that make perfume, a distillery, and pretty bottles- with that said, it's a creepy place- all the walls covered in red thick wallpaper, subliminal hyper sexual tones displayed by the way everything else is set up. Plastic baby's head with a third eye glued to the forehead, head of Baphomet with earrings up on wall! It was like I was on the movie "EYES WIDE SHUT". Needed a shower when I left, felt gross.

The descriptions of this museum seemed to imply that it involved a variety of costume and fashion displays. It does not. There are some items, but it is not the main focus. Perfume is the main focus. There are very interesting displays on the creation and usage of perfumes.

We had a lovely walk to find the museum ie got lost! but who doesn't in Venice?.. so we saw a lot extra en route!

Not too bad an entry price 10 euros for adults, 8 euros for the over 65s. Can get linked tickets, which our friends did, so they could go to the Doge's Palace at a reduced price and go to the front of the queue.

Very mixed exhibits. Very interesting and attractive building in itself.

Enjoyed sniffing all the perfume bottles and guessing the ingredients. The perfume bottles on display were fascinating and very attractive.

The only negative was the so few costumes on display... from previous reviews and photos we'd expected a lot more... those we saw, especially the waistcoats were superb but...

I'd recommend going to the museum despite that.

This museum was a delight as it was a little bit different to your average museum. The main focus of the collection is costumes, textiles and perfume, and it also had an interesting Cabinet of Curiosities section containing an eccentric mix of seemingly random objects. It was also lovely and cool inside on a hot and crowded Saturday.

I am glad I took the time to go through this quirky place, lots of really cool exhibits. I don't think my husband enjoyed it as much as I did,but he didn't rush me. Was well worth the stop in.
