My family (4) stayed at Hotel Hesperia for 2 nights. The hotel is very well located being approximately 10 minutes from the train station. You are not required to cross any bridges to reach the hotel. It is in a quiet section of Venice overlooking a canal. However only 100 metres away is the “main road” with a lot of shops & restaurants. This also is the way to the Pont di Rialto that is only 15 minutes walk.
The service was excellent with the staff very knowable of the local area. They were more than happy to help you in any way. They also offered us an upgrade to a room with a canal view for a minimal charge. We also had to leave early when departing & they were happy to open the restaurant 30 minutes earlier to provide us breakfast. The breakfast was fairly basic but very fresh. Also as I was learning Italian, I enjoyed the staff tried to teach me a little more & allowed me to attempt to converse in their language even though they spoke very good English.
The hotel is typically Venetian. While the hotel is a little dated it is very clean & quite roomy. The reception & restaurant area were quiet big. Also the reception area did have a strange odour that I presume related to the canals. Having said that you did become used to that. The rooms are also very roomy for European standards. The bathroom was a little on the small side but again very clean.
Overall a very good hotel for the price.

Room Tip: All rooms we had were quite good

It looks old when you approach from outside, but as soon as you enter you realise it's a nicely decorated hotel and very well served by its two friendly owners. Extremely good value for money. Breakfast was great and limitless. Room was very spacious, clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Location of the hotel is very good, a couple of minutes walk from shopping area and main attractions, and actually just in front of one canal and a vaporeto stop directly to Saint Marco. One of the rooms was freely upgraded to canal view, and it's invaluable how beautiful is to see all those colorful boats moving around during day and night.

Room Tip: No elevator and no rooms in the ground floor, so ask in advance if you have limitations.

I took 2 nights's rest in late Dec before X'mas. First, location is so good that we could walk within 10 min from Santa Lucia Station to the hotel. It is a small hotel with view from outside and the inside is larger than expected. Maybe due to the low season, I find the price was realy attractive compared to the warm and efficient service (thank you Martina), excellent buffet breakfast (I was really starved when seeing those food on self-served table!!), and decent internal fitting out (I like blue tiles in bathroom and glass lamp in the middle of room). We were even given choices on upgrading of room or keeping the room with canal view without upgrading. Simple and caring. I always think that it is a kind of price-quality issues on rating on value. With the price less than Euro 50, I rate it as good to excellent.

The Hotel Hesperia is a great, small hotel outside of the madness of the St Marks area. It's very conveniently located near the train station and Piazzale Roma (the bus from the airport will stop here). Just makes sure you cross the glass bridge! It takes about 20 mins walk to get to the Rialto and another 20 to get to St Marks Sq.
The hotel staff were really friendly and readily available to provide local advice. The reception area was rather whiffy but this did not extend to the dining room or the first floor rooms.
There were many options for breakfast - cereal, fruit, pastries, rolls, etc, and the coffee was good.
The room was cleaned every day and clean towels were also left every day (despite them being folded and left on the bed).
The only downside was that the room was very hot at night and leaving the window open meant that it was a little more noisy than we would have liked early morning.
All in all a fantastic budget hotel!

This was a last minute trip & I emailed the hotel about availability, and received a reply within hours. Then also received another with another room option that just became available. Reservations were made quick and easy. Less than a 10 minute walk after getting off bus we arrived at hotel. We wanted a room with a bed, which was not available for the room we booked for the first night (we stayed 3 nights), so they gave us an upgrade for the first night. We were very thankful.
Rooms were plain, but clean. Breakfast was fine. Good coffee & juice though. Staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a cool view of the canal and enjoyed the view. We had a great stay thanks.
