“Very beautiful hotel - good for the experience”
Reviewed 1 August 2012

We decided to stay at the Hotel Danieli under our Starwood points while in Venice - it was just such a good price that we really couldn't pass it up. I am sure that if we had paid full price we would have been less enthused. The hotel is gorgeous and in a great location near San Marco. Since using Starwood points perhaps we got the older part of the hotel? But, it was fine and the room was surprisingly large. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The check in concierge was really nice as well. The bed was also surprisingly comfortable. I think we had read some reviews that mentioned the beds being uncomfortable so we were pleasantly surprised by ours.

The room is traditionally decorated - nothing too exciting there - a little dark. The bathroom had been updated which was nice. It seems strange that for people paying that much for rooms that you can have free Wi Fi in the lobby but not in the rooms. I guess it's better than nothing, but it seems a little out of place in a hotel where you wouldn't expect to be charged for something that so many places include as standard. Although, I guess it's not too surprising. As other reviews suggest, the prices for drinks and food at the hotel were quite high, but you're paying for the location. We preferred other restaurants out on the square with the live music if we were going to spend that much on a drink.

Overall we really enjoyed the experience but I wouldn't over pay for a room.

The interior of this hotel is sumptuous to the eye. The service was first rate and the location can't be beat-- right next to San Marco's Square. The only critique I have of this hotel is the attitude towards the younger members of our party. Our 18 year old daughter and her two friends also stayed at this hotel with us. Every time they entered the hotel, they were asked if they were staying at the hotel ( and not in a nice manner). I can understand and appreciate the attitude of the hotel towards ensuring the privacy of their guests, however, you would think that after the first couple of days the same people who asked them, the Concierge, would make an effort to remember them.

I am pleased to learn that on the whole you enjoyed your stay as well as appreciating the service in the Hotel. I am truly sorry if you felt that the concierges did not addressed to your daughter and her young friends in an appropriate manner, I can assure you that this would not have been their intention.
I sincerely hope that your mixed experiences will not deter you from choosing the Hotel Danieli for your next visit.

We stayed at the Hotel Danieli as part of our honeymoon tour of Italy. The hotel was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Best location 2 minutes walk from the San Marco square where you will find the Basilica, the clock tower and best cafes and shopping. The lobby was superbly decorated and has a live pianist in the evening, it is lovely to have a drink there before going out for dinner. The rooms were beautiful and cosy. Best part of the stay was the hotel breakfast on the terrace which gives you an amazing view of Venice. Will definitely stay there if we go back to Venice!

As you ride the vaparetto to San Marco the view is breathtaking. When the boat docks and you disembark..it is at that moment you realize that part of that beautiful view you've just experienced as you approached the dock was the Hotel Danieli..amazing picture postcard sight on the exterior..but when you walk( the probably 25 strides) to your hotel from the boat, and enter thru the revolving doors, the sight of the lobby is breathtaking!!! If you have seen the movie the "Tourist" you already know its splendor!! You feel like royalty walking down that opulent staircase! At the reception desk, we were warmly welcomed by Favio who kindly acknowledged our star woods gold preferred status by upgrading us to a magnificent room in the older section (but still beautiful and bathrooms have been renovated!!). We had to walk up a few stairs to get to room #42 and to our delight, our windows actually included the 3 center clover shaped ones on the front facade of the hotel, afforded us the most amazing view of the canal and the streets below. The room was a nice size and very clean. The beds were turned down every evening with chocolates on the pillows as well. We were not sure if we would be able to remain in this room for our entire visit, since the hotel was full, but Favio was wonderful and managed to arrange it for our entire stay!! Thank you so much!! We were given complimentary internet as Starwood preferred guests.
The concierge was extremely helpful with our touring and transportation info and was so kind as to give us passes to take the motor boat over to the excelcior hotel on lido beach one afternoon....The hotel breakfast buffet on the terrace was delicious, with a gorgeous view of the canal..what a pleasant way to begin our day. LOCATION: The best in Venice..the hotel is probably on every picture postcard and a very short, pleasant walk to San Marco Square. While we were touring Doge Palace the tour guide pointed out the Hotel Danieli as a "famous" hotel, since we could see it from the Palace. The Vaparetto station is right in front of the Hotel...it is so convenient to get around and so relaxing riding on the canal and seeing the scenery as you go. We purchased a multi pass on the computer in advance (veniceconnected.com) which we picked up at a machine at the vaparettos. When we were leaving for the airport, we hired a water taxi, which picked us up on the narrow canal on the side of the hotel...we walked out the door of the Danieli and right into the boat...that was so cool!!! I've never rode to an airport on a speed boat before...no traffic and a great breeze ( pricey..but worth it for the experience!) This is a luxury hotel, so food and amenities are not inexpensive. However, if it was good enough for Angelina Jolie and Johnnie Depp in "The Tourist" its good enough for me!!! (Favio was nice enough to point out their rooms!!) When I do
return to Venice..there is no doubt that I will stay at the Hotel Danieli. Extra touring tip: As soon as you book your airfare and rooms, book the secret itinerary tour at the Dolge Palace on-line..they only have limited availability and its very interesting and unusual. Also, book your tour of the inside of the clock in advance as well. They only allow 12 people at a time and there are limited tours. It was fascinating to see it from the interior and the views from the top were great!! If you visit Murano, or just purchase Murano glass in the shops, start your negotiating very low!! There is a lot of room for negotiation, especially for more expensive pieces. Shipping them to you is usually included in the price, but make sure. Thank you to the professional and curtious staff at the Hotel. Our trip was a dream!!

Room Tip: If possible, try to get a room in the older section with a view of the canal!!!

We stayed at the Danieli during a brief trip to Venice. After seeing a series of mixed reviews about the hotel, decided to get the most expensive room I could afford and with a lagoon view. Highly reccomend you do this. We got a lagoon room view with a terrace. The room was very nice, breath taking view of the grand canal. The hotel is a 5 star but bear in mind that nothing in Venice is 5 star like we are used to. The hotel is a three building complex. One building newer than the other two. The more you pay, the better room you get. Our room was in the newer building. We found everything okay with the room and our stay. The bathroom was fairly good sized with the exception of the tub which was kind of narrow. We had lunch at the terrace which was very good with a fantastic view but ridiculously expensive. Bear in mind Venice is a touristy city. Everyone feeds out of tourism so everything here is ludicrously overpriced. We also had drinks at the lobby bar. Here you can take a better glance at the lobby which is very nice but could be maintained better. The hotel's location is fantastic - right on St Mark's Square and with a vaporetto stop right in front. The hotel has a water entrance on side so you can take a taxi out or in. You can also get gondola rides in fron of the hotel. Venice is on the water so you want to stay on a hotel with water access like this one or you will be hauling suitcases up bridges and ladders. Overall, I recommend this hotel. However, ask for a room in the newer building and try to get one with lagoon view and balcony!!
