Owner description: Learn to row like a Venetian-standing, facing forward, just like the gondoliers-in a beautiful, traditional Venetian all-wood gondolina batella coda di gambero. See Venice from a unique, authentic perspective in this unique outing: you can't row Venice if you haven't rowed Venice.

“A different view of Venice and the lagoon!”
Reviewed 28 February 2012

Never before thought too much about rowing a gondola type of boat and the skills required to navigate through the canals...safely! Quite an enlightening experience! But I would also say that the highlight of this activity is rowing peacefully in the middle of the lagoon away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“If fun and learning are in your to-do list.”
Reviewed 14 December 2011

I was initially bored by Venice and the touristy streets and although i was living in the community area (Canneregio), it was Winter and people were hardly on the streets much. Then we discovered this rowing activity and i must say it is the saving grace of my experience in Venice and made me fall in love with the canals, history and landscape of Venice. Jane was the perfect person as she is passionate about both rowing and Venice. She speaks excellent English. She was very kind to everyone in my group who had different learning abilities and even provided us hot green tea in a flask. This is one genuine fun experience you should not miss - even if paying to row instead of being rowed sounds crazy!

“Preserving Venice's rowing traditions, with a view of the lagoon”
Reviewed 7 December 2011

We have been to Venice several times and this was one of the funnest things we have ever done there. Gondoliers belong to an all-male guild system, where membership is passed through families. Jane and her crew are preserving Venice's rowing tradition in another way, by passing along the skills and knowledge of their traditional boats. We enjoyed learning about the upcoming regattas and the natural environment of the lagoon. It's not as deep as you think! A lovely afternoon watching seabirds and seeing Venice from a rare perspective. Soft soled shoes are a good idea, but you needn't worry about getting wet.

“Rowing in Venice is a a fun diversion for the family”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

We have 2 girls, aged 10 and 12 and all four of us loved it. Jane is fantastic with the kids, and really enjoys her work. The rowing was not too difficult, and the kids were able to pick it up quickly. Steering, however, is impossible, but fun to try. It was cold out, but we bundled up and stayed warm and out of the wind, since we were below street level. Jane also bought some hot green tea. The highlight was rowing out on the Grand Canal, for just a minute, and seeing all that activity around us. Great fun, thanks!

“So much more fun than a Gondola ride!!”
Reviewed 27 November 2011

We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone visiting Venice and thinking of paying for a Gondola ride - don't do it - do this instead! You get so much more out of it, get away from the crowds, see the back streets and smaller canals and learn so much about the history of Venice from someone who has lived there for 20 years. We both took turns in rowing and had some great photos taken in the Grand Canal amongst the hustle and bustle. Thanks Jane for a wonderful two hours!
