A great renovated hotel in a quiet location, in walking distance to all the attractions this magic city offers. Even though there is no view to the canal, the distance is just 50m.
The rooms are 5*, spacious and nicely decorated in a venice style. The Breakfast was ok.
All in all a good choice in Venice, for 150-200 euros.

My family and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in June 2012. We found the hotel without much trouble as I had a google maps printout. The location of the hotel is slightly further from Rialto bridge/ San Marco but it is a pleasant 20 minute stroll there. You leave your keys at reception when you head out to explore Venice. Take care when returning to the hotel at night from San Marco because the square was flooded on our first night and we had to take the vaperetto instead!
The hotel is decorated in lots of red, which may come across as elegant or gaudy depending on your taste. We stayed in a family room on the 2nd floor. The beds were comfortable enough and the toilet was well-lit, spacious and clean. My mom wasn't used to the redness of the room though (I know, I know, this is VENICE). One part of the floorboard was sunken in though, and the furniture looked slightly worn out. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful though. Breakfast was adequate, if not splendid. I liked how they made a pot of coffee/tea/hot chocolate though!! It was also extremely nice of the hotel staff to prepare breakfast at 7am for our family on the day we were leaving even though breakfast normally starts at 8am. They also helped us a lot with directions to certain places and gave suggestions on our mode of transport, which helped save us quite a bit of money.

We were attracted to this hotel because of the photos of the romantic rooms that are available there. Due to it's popularity, we had to stay in the Family Room (which was large but not too big for a couple) for 2 nights and the Classic Room for 1 night (which was quite small). We were warmly greeted on arrival and the room was beautiful. Although not exactly new, it has a definite romantic theme and the bathroom was also lovely. The service is very personal as it is not a large hotel and they made us feel very comfortable. As for the location, we found out it is located in a local residential area which was actually a plus as it is very quiet away from the tourist hordes yet only 15 mins pleasant stroll to the Rialto Bridge. Also it is only a 15 min walk from the Santa Lucia train station (no need for an expensive water taxi). So I would say the location is very good. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby which are better and cheaper than in the tourist areas. Also, if going for a gondola ride, I would recommend this area as opposed to the grand canal, because again, you are away from the tourists jostling for space on the Grand Canal and instead have the charming local canals largely to yourself. The only downside to the hotel is that it's bit pricey, but having said that, we will most likely stay here again next time we're in Venice.

Room Tip: It is worth the money to book early and get either the Superior Room or Family room as the Classic r...

We were very pleased with Hotel Al Duca di Venezia from the very beginning. The receptionists were very patient with us, on the phone, as they walked us (with directions) through the cute-narrow-maze-like streets of Venezia. The rooms (as we stayed in two different rooms, by choice) were to die for! My husband loved the "golden room" on the last floor of the hotel. He said he liked it because he had brought me to Venezia to be closer to the stars! Now, how romantic is that?! I, on the other hand, was enchanted with the "charming red room." This room had a true European feeling to it. It was "antique(y)" with its charming and romantic decor throughout the room. We didn't want to leave this room but when we left it to explore ever-enchanting Venezia we wanted to return to our "romantic-red room."

Breakfast was included in our hotel room price! Breakfast was an all-you-can eat cereal, fruit, pastries of all kinds and yogurt plus you could order a special drink or dish. We left Hotel Al Duca di Venezia out to adventure into beautiful Venezia with a happy and full stomach.

Hotel Al Duca di Venezia is in a great location! It is about ten minutes walk to the train station but far enough from all the tourists' traffic. However, it is very close to downtown Venezia. You can either walk or take a water taxi (the only mode of transportation for both locals and tourists).

Again, Hotel Al Duca di Venezia is in a great location and it offers a great value for what you get.

I DEFINETELY RECOMMEND Hotel Al Duca di Venezia!!

We were into our second week in Italy (after Rome and Florence), and we booked at this hotel much before, based on the reviews online....and we were not disappointed. The hotel is in an old palazzo (palace) of one of the Duke of Venice. Although, it is not in the Grand Canal, you can glimpse at the canal from the hotel entrance.

More on the location - if you arrive by train or at Piazzale Roma (shuttle from airport reaches here) , you can safely rely on the hotel's advice to follow the "yellow" signs to Museum of National History (which is next to the hotel). I had also got a more complex set of directions from Google maps and after 2 "Calles" (roads), I gave up and just followed the signs. If you have heavy 'holiday' luggage, avoid walking to the hotel - the bridges make it cumbersome. Take the waterbus instead.

The room was excellent (we got a superior room) with a separate bed for our 10 year old and had all the amenities expected of a 4 star, including free wi-fi and surprise-surprise English TV channels (CNN, BBC and EuroNews). Small touches like the elder-friendly bathrooms also set it apart.

Breakfast was the Continental buffet at the small, cosy dining area. There are good restaurants serving Italian food just a short walk away. Although for Venetian cuisine, you will need to go a little towards Rialto or even better near San Marco.

All the signs to Rialto bridge or St Mark's square are given and you will not get lost. Although, even if you do, its worth enjoying getting lost in the maze of houses!

Thanks to the staff of Al Duca Di Venezia who were courteous and provided service with a smile.
