To research a Vivaldi related project we booked a private tour through Context Travel with one of their guides. Andrea was wonderful! He is a very talented musician, composer and conductor himself so in addition to his broad knowledge of Vivaldi's life and times, he could also discuss details of the music and how changes to instruments changed the style of composers. Andrea took us through the Pieta church and honestly explained that it was built a few years after Vivaldi's death (a fact the Pieta doesn't brag about) but that Vivaldi may have had some input in the design. (Later in the week we attended a Vivaldi concert in the church and indeed the accoustics are phenomenal.). Andrea then took us to see the various houses in which Vivaldi lived. He also offered to show us period instruments, which we had already done. Though this didn't stop him from asking a friend of his we ran into during our tour to show us his 17th century cello! I was very happy with the tour and the time and effort Andrea had put into his preparations!
