Owner description: Renon's new cable car opened on May 23, 2009, offering a whole bunch of fantastic advantages for vacationers and local commuters alike: a generous schedule, short travel time and easy access. It's a true gem. It only takes 12 minutes for the gondolas to move from Bozen/Bolzano to Oberbozen/Soprabolzano - they depart every 4 minutes, so there's practically no waiting time.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Stairs / lift, Bathroom facilities

Liked the views and the cost was OK for the distance travelled. Not as much at the Top as had hoped.

Take the ift up to Ober Bozen and then the little train. At the end of the line there are signs to the Erd Pyramiden (Earth Pyramids), an easy and pleasant walk to where you can see these interesting erosional formations. You pass through a couple of small villages where you can get lunch.

Nice comfortable ride to the top to connect with the train for another scenic ride. While in the cable car look for the p y r a m i d s (small brownish red conical ground swellings).

After the train ride instead of walking down go to the next village for more scenic views.

We stayed in the hotel Regina and you can walk to this attraction from the hotel which is near the train station. The ride up and back presents a fantastic view of Bolzano and the countryside. When you arrive at the top there is a nice village where one can wander around and have drink and enjoy the views.

We took the cable car from the depot near the Bolzano train station up to Soprabolzano. The cars are fully automated and depart frequently. They have some seating inside, but some people stand. Views are fantastic. The arrival and departure of the cable cars seem to be coordinated with the schedule of the small train running out to Collalbo and back, so it is very easy to make the connection, but the views were not as interesting from the train. Once off the train in Collalbo, we decided to walk out of town to see the highly-touted "Pyramids" rock formations. The walk turned out to be much further than we anticipated, and the rock formations themselves were very disappointing, compared to rock formations in the southwestern U.S. or in Cappadocia, Turkey. For us, the walk was not worthwhile, and I do not recommend it. Because we never saw any public buses go by, we had no choice but to walk all the way back to the train station to return on the train and the cable car.
