We took the cable car from the depot near the Bolzano train station up to Soprabolzano. The cars are fully automated and depart frequently. They have some seating inside, but some people stand. Views are fantastic. The arrival and departure of the cable cars seem to be coordinated with the schedule of the small train running out to Collalbo and back, so it is very easy to make the connection, but the views were not as interesting from the train. Once off the train in Collalbo, we decided to walk out of town to see the highly-touted "Pyramids" rock formations. The walk turned out to be much further than we anticipated, and the rock formations themselves were very disappointing, compared to rock formations in the southwestern U.S. or in Cappadocia, Turkey. For us, the walk was not worthwhile, and I do not recommend it. Because we never saw any public buses go by, we had no choice but to walk all the way back to the train station to return on the train and the cable car.
