“Home eating in Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2012 via mobile

This was a nice clean restaurant with a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. By the end of the evening it was very full with fairly large groups , many of which looked to be families. The menu was varied and had a good mix of dishes to offer. My wife really loved the Ragu sauce and the rabbit. The Carpaccio was fabulous! The waiter was extremely friendly and helpful, explaining each dish and made a good recommendation on wine. He also gave us advice to not accept to pay a cover charge, which we were earlier in the day and to tell the police about it. Great place and will go back again when we have the opportunity.

“Wonderful Italian dinner!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

Wonderful food and great wine. Service was great and the recommendations were spot on! Expect an unharried dinner in the warm company of boisterous locals. We enjoyed everything from the bread to the deserts. We had a salad, pasta with asparagus and lamb, beef steak and a bottle of wine. Topped it off with strawberries with custard and caffe. Probably the only tourists in the restaurant full of locals (always a good sign..) but the wait staff patiently explain the menu options and wine recommendations (a nice 18 Euro bottle of red),

“we will return!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

My wife and I arrived around 8.00pm and had our choice of tables....small but excellent menu...the food was first class and we had some excellent wines, all at a very affordable price. The owner was charming and it turned out in the past he had a restaurant in Ne York where we live and his apartment was a block away from us! e had a lovely evening and would definitely recommend this restaurant. Easy on the grappa!

“Tuscany in Milan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2012

The Alba d'Oro is positioned in a quiet street in the Corso Buenos Aires area. There weren't many customers when we arrived but the restaurant filled up quite a bit later. Not many tourists. The menu takes inspiration from the tradition of Tuscany, with a nice mix of fish and meat dishes. It's only a couple of pages though, there's not much variety but it's definitely "quality over quantity". Pasta was great and well cooked, the choice of cheeses (fresh and hard) was very well put together and the Cantucci (traditional cookies from Prato) were delicious. Even the selection of bread slices was variegated (black bread, bread with olives etc.). There's a vast choice of wines (mostly from Tuscany) and we were given a complimentary sip of an unnamed digestive liquor, strong and spicy, which was perfect to end the dinner.
The atmosphere is very lively, waiters and the owner himself are more than happy to share some words with you (even, more than some :)). The kitchen is visible from the restaurant and you can see that everything is cooked on the moment (even bread and ham is sliced on request, not a moment earlier). You really get a feeling of what a restaurant is like in the perfect italian tradition here.

Totally recommended, especially in a quiet, starry, hot night on the outdoor tables. The only complain I'm allowing myself to do is that the meat and fish dishes are very expensive even for Milan (25-30€). But the spirit of Alba d'Oro is quality over quantity. Which is what matters in a restaurant like this, after all (for quantity over quality, go to McDonalds).
