Hotel Mirage is slightly on the outskirts. There is one tram that takes you directly to the Duomo and the other places of interest. So it's not a major hassle if you have time on your hand. However, most of the tour operators start at the Centre of the city and so if you want to take a guided tour, you have to first head to their offices or designated pick up points at the city centre and plan accordingly. The reception staff of course is helpful enough with the maps and the guides but unlike other places in Rome, do not go out of their way to help you plan an itinerary.
The breakfast in the hotel is nice but the restaurant for dinner could do with some more choices.
The room was comfortable with basic amenities but the television had only local channels on.
Except for the location, the hotel is great. So if you are planning to spend time in the city centre and come back just for your naps, this is a great place.
