“Last minute choice...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2011

I am sad that I do not have good things to say about this hotel. Perhaps my standards got too high for staying in really great hotels in my trip to Italy that I found that this NH Machiavelli was not a good choice. Expensive, dirty and I also hated its location.

Our trip plans got slightly changed and we arrived to Milan one day earlier than we expected so we had to get this hotel at the last minute because the city was full. Thankfully it was only for a night.

Location – It is not the safest surroundings to be at night. Get a taxi. During the day it is ok to walk to Corso Buenos Aires and surroundings.

Staff - They are correct but do not expect a smile.

Room - Tired and dated with a few issues in the way they are clean. Mold on the bathtub was disgusting. Bed was ok and sheets were clean.

Corridors were dark and carpets are stained all around.... no carpet in the bedroom, thankfully!!!

Breakfast was ok, though, but nothing special...

OK, perhaps I’m picky but when you are paying almost 200 euros a night you just expect another level of hotel and services.

We chose the hotel for its central location, it's only 15-20min walk from Central station or there is a tramway stop (line 9) 100m from the hotel to reach the station. Walk from hotel to Duomo through the parc also took around 20mins and the Porto Venezia metro stop is 5mins away.

We arrived early morning and thought we would need to leave our luggage for storage before our rooms would be ready later, but first good surprise was to be offered early check-in. We had booked a standard double-room and were then proposed a 15EUR upgrade for Junior Suite room and free mini-bar, which we accepted.

The room was very clean, the king bed comfortable (mattress was rather hard but we like it), the only downside being the presence of old (and small) TV sets.
There was free wifi in the lobby which worked very fine so I did not use it in the room.
The breakfast buffet was very good with all sorts of croissants and breads and fresh fruits.

Staff was very friendly and helpful.
All in all, a very pleasant stay and very good value for the price.

Room Tip: Junior suite on 4th floor was very quiet

The hotel was a typical business hotel. Quite, clean and small rooms. There was a smell of perfumed detergants that you can locate all over the world. Besides that the breakfast was really amazing! Best ever in Italy. Fresh fruit, eggs and bacon and not only white toast bread. I really enjoyed my breakfasts! Can´t say that it was so centrally located as others say, it took us 20 min by tram to get to the Duomo and the city centre. But it was worth that trip every day. And the tram took us all over the city and the nearest station was just outside the door. You just have to find out how to shop your "One-day-ticket". The service at the reception desk was very good, too.

We were wandering around Italy on the train after a cruise and, with no plans, stayed at some pretty random places. This hotel was recommended to us by another traveler and we were glad we listened. It is about 4 blocks from the train station, an easy walk. It is also walking distance (about 10-15 minutes) to the center of the city and the cathedral and shops. While not in the heart of things it is in a quiet neighborhood with shops and restaurants.

The hotel itself is very modern and clean. Staff provided maps and suggestions on what to see but the front desk was minimally staffed. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. We would certainly stay there again and can recommend it, as long as you are willing to walk a bit.

A couple of tips for Milan. See the cathedral, it is amazing, but go up the stairs to the roof for amazing, close up views. You can climb almost to the top and walk out on roof. Also be aware that things close on Sundays in Italy, we did find things mostly open in the main shopping center, but other than that everything closes. Also, if you want to see the last supper, book very far in advance.
