Just returned from a 2 week stay at this lovely hotel in the beautiful little town of Baveno which we were glad we chose rather than staying in nearby more 'touristy' Stresa.

As mentioned by many previous reviewers, the staff at Hotel Simplon are all friendly, efficient and hard working. We were very pleased with our room (240) which was kept spotlessly clean. The room was of a good size although storage was limited to the wardrobe and 2 bedside tables. The mini fridge was very cool and was big enough to fit a couple of large bottles of water.

The food both at breakfast and dinner was amazing. In our 2 week stay the menus were not repeated. The restaurant staff are extremely efficient and very friendly.

There is a supermarket just across the road from the hotel which is very reasonable. A large bottle of water for the room only cost 22 cents.

Baveno is a very pretty town with a relaxed atmosphere especially in the evening. It has a great Tourist Information office next to the church where lots of local information, maps etc are available from the lady on duty. This is also where the public toilet is situated (very clean). The ferry service from Baveno is very good and the staff are happy to explain the different options to you. There is a train station which we didn't use. We used the bus to visit Lake Orta but beware - the bus back failed to arrive and we were stuck there for 3 hours waiting for the next one as a taxi back would have cost 70 Euros.

If holidaying in Lake Maggiore, then Hotel Simplon is a very good choice. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lake are quieter.

A fabulous location along Laggo Maggiore. The hotel is clearly worth staying and enjoying the pool side. Staff welcome and service is amazing. We were greeted with a room upgrade and friendly smiles. The room facing the lake is amazing, very clean and comfortable. We love the place, grazie mille from the pool side

We did a rather last minute booking and managed to find this Hotel in Baveno, on Lago Maggiore, a couple of miles up the coast from Stresa. Baveno is a fairly small town with 2 largish Hotels, the Simplon and the Grand Dino - both owned by the same company. Indeed there is an underground walkway between the two which is extremely useful. Not only can you use the facilities of the Hotel at which you are not staying but the route provides an air conditioned path to the town and saves an unpleasant walk down narrow pavements by a busy road.
This hotel is on a fairly grand scale, loads of 'artefacts', pictures, mirrors etc adorn the walls with a slightly old fashioned decorative style. Don't let that put you off. This is one of the cleanest hotels that we have ever stayed in, immaculate and not obvious when the cleaning was done.
The staff are extraordinarily polite and helpful. We received a warm welcome and an escorted journey to our room by a member of staff. Many speak good English and are a credit to the hotel management and their training.
We only stayed on Bed and Breakfast so I cannot comment on the dinner. We did use the pool snack bar facility a couple of times and although the cost is slightly expensive the food was generally good.
The breakfast was terrific, plenty of choice for all tastes, fresh fruit, cooked meat, multiple different types of bread, cereals etc. A favourite mark of a good hotel breakfast in my opinion is freshly squeezed orange juice and this hotel came up trumps. Both inside (air conditioned) or outside (hot but pleasant) eating is available, space permitting.
The pool is large, just big enough for the numbers of guests, but was a little small when a load of boys start playing with balls and inflatables in the middle. There is also a small children's pool. A caveat to this was that there really didn't seem to be enough umbrellas, but thankfully there didn't seem to be much towel marking of pool side couches as you so often find, so it wasn't a major problem.
We had a lakeside room with a terrace on the first floor, with its own loungers and a table and chairs. As the sun went off the terrace at about 1 o'clock it was a nice place to sit outside when it was too hot. (see photo of the view).
The room was fairly spacious and reasonably well equipped. I would have expected some more storage space and the bathroom still has a bidet which takes up room and gets banged every time you open the door. But not really huge problems.
The bonus of staying here was access to the other hotel, which has both an outdoor and indoor pool, as well as a large sunbathing area.
If you want a relaxing stay, be well looked after by polite and helpful staff you won't go far wrong with this hotel.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: For the best view and for peace and quiet choose a lake view room

rooms are finished to a high standard and all services you would expect from this type of hotel are of a high standard. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the choice of food is exceptional.

Just returned from a 10 day stay at the Hotel Simplon and loved it! The hotel is in a great location in Baveno. It’s within walking distance of the ferry terminal, bus stop and train station. There is also a supermarket really close to the hotel which is convenient for provisions. Baveno is a fairly quiet resort but a great hub to see many parts of the lake.

Hotel decor is beautiful and the hotel spotless throughout.

Staff were all so attentive and friendly throughout our stay. Reception always greeted us when we arrived or left, restaurant and bar staff were great and cleaners are an asset to the hotel.

We stayed half board and the food was great. Breakfast was a selection of cheeses, hams, sausage, bacon, egg, pancakes, fresh fruit, breads, cakes, pastries and cereal. Not forgetting the orange juice that a machine freshly squeezed for you and great coffee.

Dinner was salad buffet to start, a choice of four first courses and four main courses followed by a dessert buffet and cheese and biscuits to follow. I don’t eat meat but there was plenty of vegetarian and fish choices.

Pool and outside area is lovely. Grass is AstroTurf throughout and the pool area is lovely. The added bonus being that you can walk via the hotel to the Hotel Dino if you want a change of scenery. They have an indoor pool, good size outdoor pool, a platform to swim in the lake and lovely grounds to sit in. Hotel Dino outdoor pool was cold compared to the Hotel Simplon pool but given the heat it wasn’t a problem.

The only negatives would maybe be the WiFi. Connection wasn’t always great. Also, in the last 48 hours there were several groups playing ball games in the pool. The pool area isn’t huge which made it uncomfortable at points as there was always the risk of getting hit which I did. Luckily the Hotel Dino pool was a great alternative if the Simplon pool is busy.

I would definitely recommend.
