This is a grand hotel - from the incredible stained glass ceilings of the lobby, to the well- appointed spacious rooms and the very friendly wait staff in both the bar and restaurant. We recently had a chance to stay for a couple of nights during our fast paced tour of Italy and were much impressed. Bar service for the room included a beautiful tray of tiny appietizers, small bite sized sandwhiches and nuts and chips - included in the price of cocktails - and served on a three tiered silver tray. The bathroom was extra large with a beautiful swan mosaic in the shower.
This hotel shares a common tunnel with its sister hotel, the Dino next door. The tunnel has been filled with reproductions of the famous artworks ~ in true to original sizes - makes for a very interesting walk between the hotels. The pool and surrounding common grounds are immaculate.
Dinner was stunning - beautiful served with a staff person anxious to attend to your every need. jWe loved this experience and rate it high up there on our most recent trip to Italy. Would highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a lake view room next time - altho the gardens were lovely to look at off our deck

This is a very good hotel, no doubt about that, and the staff are excellent. That said there are a couple of things that don't quite 'chime'. Whilst the hotel is opulent and it's sister hotel ( conjoined by an extraordinary 'tunnel') even more so, Baveno it's self, we found, was no more than ordinary, so their location seemed difficult to understand. Then, whilst the beautiful gardens are a haven of peace and tranquillity, with a stunning pool area, the front of the hotel is on a busy and sometimes noisy main road. The choice of food and the quantity is beyond question, and largely the quality is fine, but we felt the actual main courses at dinner didn't reflect the quality of the elegant restaurant or the rest of the courses. Certainly the hotel is very plush and the attention to the decorative detail would grace a palace ,and certainly it is very clean, but we felt the hotel deserved a sweeping drive to put it in context, the restaurant deserved better main courses, and the location would have been better suited to a more glamorous town.
Look, don't let these details put you off , but just be prepared for them . One other thing , whilst the bar/ lounge areas are undoubtedly agreeable, and the staff, again, charming and friendly, the prices are pretty steep.
Hope these comments help balance your expectations of this extraordinary hotel and it's excellent staff.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed of a high standard , but as others have said,if you can afford the lake view , it would be the icing on the cake.

This hotel and all of the staff are lovely :-) On the evening of our arrival our flight was delayed, so we phoned the hotel as a matter of courtesy and informed them we would not arrive until 10.30 pm. They were lovely and said it was not a problem, but were concerned we would not make the evening meal, and arranged for some food for us on arrival. To our surprise, on entering our room, they had laid on a full platter of different foods from the evening meal, just how nice :-)) Really lovely of them and it was fab food :-))
We were advised by the booking agent when we were booking the holiday, that the food made it worth upgrading to half board for a small fee. So glad we did :-)
The attention to detail from the all the hotel staff and the wonderful food and service in the mornings & evenings, truly made us feel so welcome.
If you are looking for a well situated hotel with great staff then this is the one! Highly recommended :-))

I intend to take my wife to this part very soon, as I was there on business, which wad nice but would be far better to just enjoy without work :) Hotel was connected underground to it's mother hotel which is right on the lake. The only grip I had was that the bar on the evening had zero ambiance, and was too bright! I was also told that our group was told to keep it down a bit (which was not a surprise) but pleased to say I was already in bed at that point!

The area is lovely, we had a boat ride to the island and eat dinner their one night. It was really amazing place.

Otherwise the rooms, staff and hotel was very good.

Room Tip: Stay at the mother hotel and ask for a lake view!

We enjoyed a fantastic 10 night stay at The Simplon. As so many other people have said, it is difficult to find fault with this excellent hotel. It is elegant, exceptionally clean and very well maintained. The pool area and gardens are beautiful. All the reception and restaurant staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful. As others have said, the only slight negative is the price of drinks at the bar. We paid €10 for a gin and tonic. The 5 course dinner menu is €35 which is quite pricey, but well worth it. The menu changes each day and the hors d'oeuvres buffet and selection of desserts are amazing!
The 2-day Lake Maggiore Express ticket is well worth purchasing. It costs €40 and includes one day's travel by panoramic train into Switzerland and back by boat from Locarno. The second day is unlimited ferry travel on the lake. The Simplon is about 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal. Other amenities including restaurants, shops, the post office and a supermarket are all close by.
We would love to return to The Simplon sometime soon and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Room Tip: We didn't want to pay the extra for a garden view and had a standard room (312) which faced the road. We didn't find it a problem and in fact we enjoyed sitting on our balcony and watching the world go by!
