This is a cooking school just outside of Varenna. The chef will pick you up at your hotel early in the morning. We learned to make pasta, risotto and prepare chicken breasts. There were some excellent hints regarding preparation - including how to save garlic and other herbs when not using it all. The chef,Moreno Maglia, was a good teacher and had a wonderful sense of humor which he added to the class. The class was small [in our case 8 people - 4 couples]. We were able to eat the food we prepared at the end and it turned out delicious. Very reasonable cost!

Chef Moreno is a wonderful man and we had the privilege to experience his cooking class. He picked us up in Varenna and drove us up to Perledo where we met his wife and spent time in his wonderful restaurant. Watching Chef Moreno cook and learning how to make tortelloni, sauce and risotto was an experience that I will treasure forever. The food was spectacular, but the hospitality and the stories were even better. I should also mention that in addition to what we cooked, we were also served pastries, coffee, meat and cheese platter and dessert... and unlimited wine! Perledo is a sweet little village I would highly recommend this to all and I hope that I can do it again in the future. This is not to be missed!

The Restaurante Il Caminetto cooking class is so much more than a cooking lesson. It's a rich opportunity to see an ancient town on a mountain above Lake Como, to hear how locals live, to learn about a second generation restaurant and to relax for an afternnon with wine, fantastic food and a new friend. Chef Moreno is happy to tell you about the history of the 500 year old building in which the restaurant is housed, as well as providing humor and cooking technique advice. I highly recommend this experience.

Spent the good part of the day with Chef Morena learning how to make tortelloni, a wonderful tomato sauce, and prosciutto-wrapped turkey breast! What fun! He is a great teacher, and the classroom was filled with laughter and amazing aromas. Don’t miss!

We attended the cookery class offered by Chef Moreno and couldn’t have had a better time. The time is spent in a cozy 500 year old restaurant learning about pasta making and Italian cooking techniques while enjoying he charming personality of the host, the space and fellow travelers. And, you eat the food chef prepared with your help almond the way. I highly recommend this cookery class if you enjoy cooking and eating Italian food.

We drove up all the windy roads to end up in this beautiful small town. Every turn and angle was worth it. Our dinners were excellent.the owner came around and made sure that you were happy. They could not do enough for you. D-licious. We ordered from the price fixed menu. What a great deal. We got sampling of a lot of food. You will not leave hungry. We would definitely return again and again. Congratulations to this restaurant for its excellence

Without doubt one of the highlights of our trip to Varenna.
We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and this was a surprise for my wife.
All correspondence with Moreno and Rosella was inserted promptly and with humour.

We were first to arrive and were given a cappuccino with small cakes and biscuits. The other twelve guests arrived and the group were very friendly and provided excellent company, with good conversation.
The cooking class started with Chef Moreno making a tiramasu which was placed in fridge for later on. He then proceeded to make Ugly Hat pasta (Capalletti) from scratch, allowing us to assist with filling (mushroom and ricotta) and shaping pasta. It was then on to the main course which was beef stuffed with porcini mushroom pate and a side of green beans. One of the guests had food allergy and this was taken into account when deciding menu.
A cheese and meat board was provided for lunch with unlimited wine and soft drinks. We were also allowed to walk around the village which was quaint and rustic.
Chef Moreno is a great storyteller and his sense of humour shines throughout the day and makes for a very comfortable experience.
The food was Fantastic especially the Tiramasu, heavenly but not enough.
Will definitely recommend and will be returning ourselves.
A must do experience
Thank you Moreno and Rosella

This was THE highlight of our 10 day trip in Northern Italy and a must do experience in the Lake Como area.

First, the environment is wonderful - very welcoming (greeted with coffee, espresso, cappuccino, etc. and mini pastries upon arrival), the ambience is authentic, the exterior and interior of the restaurant are beautiful, and the horse-shoe style set-up of the tables facilitates both conversation with the other guests and interaction with/demonstration from the Chef himself.

Next the cooking class/demonstration itself in is delightful. The Chef offers clear guidance on recipes, discusses the ingrendients themselves (which are the best to use and why, where they originate, etc.). I call this a demonstration because it’s more of the Chef preparing the food while we looked on, asked questions, and drank wine! There’s certainly plenty of interaction where the Chef lets you feel the a sample of dough for the tortellini and smell some of the herbs he uses - we also got hands on and we’re able to help form the tortellini! Overall, this is the best of both worlds since the Chef does the hard work and you’re sure to get a great meal, but you also get to interact and help in the process while sitting back and enjoying great conversation and the wine, of course. The Chef also works in a lot of jokes along the way that makes the time move quickly and fosters a very social environment.

Finally the food (and wine) - fantastic! We started with the Meat and cheese board and bread. Next the tortellini with the fresh pomodoro sauce, followed by the veal roast, and finally the tiramisu. Everything was delicious!

Overall, the class consist of a lot of good conversation, food, wine, laughs, and learning. Highly recommended for any couples or groups trying to explore the cuisine and learn from the best. Thanks, Chef!

Moreno's cooking class is a fantastic experience. He is as much an entertainer and comedian as much he is a chef.

I highly recommend this experience. You'll have a great time, the wine will flow and the food is incredible!

Enjoy!

Moreno's class is as wonderful as everyone says it is! He is a wonderful ambassador for Lake Como and Italian food, and such a warm and welcoming man. It is more of a demonstration than a hands-on cooking class, although everyone does put on an apron and help fold the tortelloni. For most of the time, everyone is seated around a table, drinking coffee and snacks and wine, while Moreno explains what he's doing every step of the way, telling stories about his life and family, and telling you about Italian cooking in general. The meal was *delicious*—we had ricotta and herb-stuffed tortelloni in a lighter summer tomato sauce and a veal loin wrapped in prosciutto with mushrooms and potatoes. It's incredibly nice that he picks you up and drops you off, as the roads to his restaurant in the mountains are no joke!
