Loved the location, view and everything about the stay. One of the best views from the balcony anywhere. A walk towards the water reveals all the charming nuances of Italian life. Comfortable, charming, loved it.
Wow, what can I say...a magical getaway in the most surreal of places. Bellagio is a quaint town with so much to see and do...although my favorite was to just sit with a coffee and enjoy the view. The house is gorgeous with its history emanating from the walls and a view that makes your heart sing. A nice 15' walk to town or a quick stroll down to the lakeshore. You can't beat these accommodations and most of all location, location, location! Do yourself a favor and get to Bellagio and stay at Villa Poletti...beautiful, romantic, kid-friendly...everything you could ask for and more!
Villa Poletti is beautiful, with great views of Lake Como. We were there with our kids and in-laws and had a wonderful time. The house is about a 20-25 minute walk from Bellagio, a beautiful town right on the water. ( The walk itself is a bit of an adventure, as you walk on a narrow, winding road with not much room on the sides.) The house is very well stocked, and the owners provide much useful information about restaurants and activities in the region. The agent, Monica, is also very helpful. The best thing I can say is that it looks like the pictures.

Villa Poletti certainly lived up to its reputation. It was the perfect place to stay for a week, and the spaciousness of the villa allowed us to relax. My only regret is that we didn't have two weeks there.
Some particulars about the home. It is located 1 mile from Bellagio center, but it is on the bus route and has a bus stop almost outside the front door. The bus runs regularly and on time (mostly). The main level has a beautiful view of Lake Como from the terrace and Living Room, which seats 6 people comfortably. The dining table seats 8. The kitchen was adequate, with all the essentials for daily cooking. The only thing it lacked was a proper rolling pin (the one there had a long crack), and sharp knives. Otherwise, I was able to cook anything we wanted. Incidentally, there are 2 grocery stores within 1 mile, so supplies are right at hand. There is a full bath on the main level.
The second floor has three bedrooms. Two overlook Lake Como, with the third on the street side. One is a suite; the other 2 share a bathroom. They are all spacious. The third floor has an apartment with its own small kitchen, Living Room bedroom and bathroom. It is also spacious. My daughter thought she was in Heaven with her own place away from the other kids. The "apartment" is just up the stairs. The furniture throughout is very nice and comfortable. The church bell in San Giovanni plays music daily.
We spent two weeks in Italy and Switzerland, but the time at Villa Poletti was the only time I would say I relaxed. Everywhere else we were forced to stay in three different hotel rooms, which meant we had no common areas to interact. We were also forced to eat in restaurants for every meal. The advantage Villa Poletti has is that you can have the refrigerator and pantry stocked before you arrive and have food for breakfasts (with espresso/cappuccino) and snacks. I also cooked several dinners there. It was so perfect to sit at the dining table on the terrace and enjoy the sunset views of the lake. We could also go out to dinner when we wanted, and weren't limited to the overpriced restaurants in Bellagio.
We rented a car because it's hard to get bus and ferry schedules to coincide. If you take the bus you might have to catch the 8:22 am bus for a 9:15 ferry, meaning you spend nearly an hour at the ferry station waiting. The bus only comes every 1 1/2 hours or so. Parking isn't plentiful in Bellagio, but it seemed sufficient, especially if you get there early in the day.
What a fitting way to conclude a 3 week tour of Italy! It was a perfect retreat after weeks of heavy travel--relaxing under lofty ceilings, viewing the beautiful grounds and enjoying amazing lake views. The villa has every modern comfort you could hope for and is impeccably decorated with stunning artwork and antique furnishings. The kitchen is well-equipped, and includes an easy-to-use espresso machine that made great coffee--we loved waking up to the spectacular lake view and having coffee and playing backgammon on the terrace. It is close enough to walk to some local attractions, and a short taxi ride gets you to everything else local. Pay attention to the house recommendations for dining out and getting around--they are spot on! We would feel blessed to make it back here again!
