“Not as good as recent reviews state”
Reviewed 7 May 2012

Location, location, location. This is the best thing about the restaurant - outstanding.
But, the food did not live up to expectations given the recent reviews and the price paid. We stopped by mid afternoon for a drink and enquired about a table for dinner, to be advised that they were very busy but could squeeze us in at 7pm. We were therefore surprised to find the restaurant less than 25% full when we'd finished dining by 9.30pm.
To summarise, the terrace location is superb, but the food did not live up to the ££££ pricing.

“Rustic and elegant in the upper of the upper city of Bergamo”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

The Baretto is an exquisite place where I usually bring friends from overseas, especially those who are in a hurry and have very little time to see the whole of Bergamo.
Il Baretto is located on the hill of San Vigilio where you can enjoy the most breathtaking view of Città Alta and Città Bassa, truly a special place on this planet. Personally I'd rate the San Vigilio hill among my 10 ten favorites in the world, along with the Palatine hill in Rome, Portofino, Big Sur in California.....
Baretto has gone through a great renaissance of cuisine and arts, the place itself is simply worth a visit but when you get to taste the food then you realize what "dolce vita" is all about.
I was born and raised in Bergamo and I need to thank Beppe Acquaroli for making this spot in Bergamo a place for the soul and the senses.
I recommend taking the cable train (Funicolare) on the way up to the Baretto and slowly walking down the "Ripa di San Vigilio" enjoying the wonderful and inspiring view of Città alta.

“Nice food, nice price”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

To wait San Vigilio funiculaire in Bergamo, go to Baretto de San Vigilio. The best pasta I've already eaten in Italy. Nice service, nice food and nice price. Best of the best.

“Baretto di San Vigilio - Bergamo Citta' Alta - and then keep on up the hill”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

One of the charms of this restaurant (the term Baretto is something of a misnomer) is its outstanding location. From the upper town (Bergamo Citta' Alta) you can take the Funicular railway up to San Vigilio, or if you enjoy a good walk up a nice steep hill then it is about 15 minutes uphill on foot, with wonderful villas on each side and splendid views across the towers and spires of Bergamo Citta' Alta and across the plain below. Once you get to the restaurant you will not be disappointed: the food is excellent, with a fine selection of regional dishes and wines, the service professional, and the setting most enjoyable. On the way home it is downhill all the way.
