Firstly let's just say that this hotel needs some serious renovation. It's got the typical old Italian decorations, and my children thought it was kind of spooky. The room had a decent size for a family but it had all antique furniture. The children slept on a sofa-bed which wasn't that good either. They said that it wasn't comfortable at all and woke up with mosquito and ant bites every morning. We even caught some ants on the floor. As well as that the bathroom was not nice. The shower was a cabin made for midgets! My husband hardly fitted into the shower, and I can't even imagine how a slightly overweight person could fit in there. As well as that the towels were kept in a disgusting way. The lift wasn't very good either. But other than all of that, the location was very good.

We just stayed for 6 nights in this very nice hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure. The hotel is very comfortable and nice decorated, everything was very clean and the staff was so helpful. We booked a room with breakfast and this was very very good comparing with other italian hotels. The hotel restaurant also offers lunch and dinner. We had one dinner with 3 courses and a bottle of red wine. It was just great but quite expensive (about 80 euro for 2 person). The hotel is very well located, there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. And in less then 8 minutes you are at the sea or at the train station. Only negative thing: our standard (small, about 12 m2 big) room without a balcony (105) was on the ground floor directely 1,5 m above a few parking places and a busy road... it means that we wake up every morning at about 7.30 am because it was quite noisy with sound of cars and scooters. But I have to say that of course 80% of all other rooms of the hotel will not have the same problem. I can recommend Hotel Jolanda to 100%.

Room Tip: Our room 105 on ground floor was quite noisy... It is for sure better to ask for a room on higher fl...

We were utterly charmed by the Italian style of this hotel with its warm, friendly staff and very comfortable room with large balcony, complete with small table and chairs. This was our first time in Santa Margherita and the Jolanda is in an excellent location for accessing the seafront, restaurants and station. We had breakfast in a beautiful courtyard garden, complete with orange trees. The self service breakfast buffet offered a great choice including fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, fruit juices, delicious ham, salami, croissant, pastries and do-it-yourself boiled eggs. One evening we had dinner in the hotel and ate the most delicious meal of typically Ligurian food - do try these dishes - Pansoti in salsa di noce (stuffed home made pasta in nut sauce), Orata alla Ligure (gilthead sea bream with olives and tomatoes). Served in the candlelit courtyard garden - utterly lovely. Would highly recommend both the Jolanda and Santa Margherita.

Room Tip: Our room at the front of the hotel had a good view up the street to the hills beyond. The sun was on...

Hotel Jolanda is a very nice hotel, located in the town of Santa Marguerita Ligure. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony. The room was very spacious, bed comfortable. The only downside to the room was that it was noisy with the sound of scooters at night, so you need to shut the metal shutters down and put on the airconditioning for a good nites sleep. The room included breakfast, which was ample with some excellent coffee! The location is perfect, easy to walk around the town and down to the water, which is only a block away. This was a great stop on our trip, with easy ferry access to the picturesque town of Portofino. The streets are filled with great shops, especially pastry shops!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

Friends and I were looking for a comfortable place from which to explore Cinque Terra. We were recommended by Italian friends to stay in other places (less touristy), but ended up staying here in Santa Margherita. It was the best choice - and so was Hotel Jolanda.

The hotel was only 7min walk to the train station and about the same down to the water front. It was clean, comfortable and very well appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic. The best we had in Italy.

Getting too and from the train station to walk the Cinque Terre was easy and only a 45min train journey down the coast to start the walk. I would highly recommend visiting the village of Camogli five minutes from Santa Margherita. Just beautiful. Don't bother buying a train ticket, just get on the train. In our four days of travelling up and down the coast we were not checked once. It appears none of the locals buy tickets, only the silly foreigners!
