Firstly let me preface by saying that the location and views from this hotel are superb, and the staff at the "American Bar" on the ground floor are brilliant.

That said:

The rooms at the Lido Palace run from the front of the hotel to the back of the hotel, so every room gets a view. The interiors are tired with questionable taste in artwork. If you can't manage stairs, you couldn't stay here as each room is accessed via a stairway.

The beds were short (for a tall person) and sloped towards the floor making any movement feel perilous. The bedroom was very poorly sound proofed meaning you can hear footsteps, voices and water movement whenever anyone in the adjoining rooms uses their bathroom.

On the subject of bathrooms, whoever designed the bathrooms at the Lido Palace clearly has never used one. Firstly, in the shower over bath, the shower head was located in the middle of the bath on the long side meaning there was no way to have a shower without either flooding the bathroom or getting far too cosy with the mouldy shower curtain. The toilet was so close to the wall that you had to be a contortionist to use it with any ease, or risk getting the toilet roll holder embedded in your side. The toilet broke down three times, flooding the bathroom on two occasions. Both times assistance was rendered quickly from the receptions staff, however we were advised that a plumber would only be called out if the flooding occurred three times.

A positive aspect of the room, aside from the view, included free WiFi internet access.

Our stay included a continental breakfast which was pleasant with a variety of choices.

A word of advice, if you're staying in your room during the day, place the do not disturb sign on the door to prevent the cleaning staff from walking into your room unannounced.

We stayed in a junior sute in this hotel. The suite was large, clean and very functional.
My wife said this way one of the most beautiful suites we have seen. It is located right on the sea but quiet in the evening. The service is excellent and the breakfast is outstanding.

Couldn't let this go! I would hate anyone to stay here if you were elderly or had small kids. It had good points of course. But the hotel rooms were dated, there were steps down to bedroom door like as if you were on a ship or something, then another step into bedroom then 3 more steps down to the bathroom and three more steps up to bedroom. It was ridiculous and with kids aged 5 and 7 who slept in the sitting room on a couch bed! The rooms were tidy putting it mildly! There was too much furniture in rooms you could hardly move. And my god it is noisy at night time with ambulances, cars, etc and we were there at off season. We booked a Junior suite thinking it would be better than the average bedroom well I would hate to see the average bedroom but the rooms did not look like in the brochure! The bar was not open after 7pm. The good side was its location, the view was nice from the room but the hotel has a back street to it that can be noisy. No black out blinds in the sitting which meant kids were up early! The breakfast was included but I have to say it was good but something had to make up for the rooms. There is no parking at hotel but they have a place down the road but it cost and extra 18 Euro a day to bear in mind! But definitely if you are looking for comfort you need to go 5star plus. Which were all booked out and I know why? It is definitely not worth its 4stars! And girls if you like you hairdryers bring you own or you will spend all day drying your hair with the one the hotel provides! Plus no english channels. The area itself is lovely and is more suited to couples. Would definitely go back but would stay elsewhere. Food is average around the place it can vary you can do cheap or splash out. We did both. Just thought I would let people know. (Am an Irish woman in my 30's ).

Dark, tired, ugly Hotel. Very unfriendly staff and unprofessional staff. The Hotel has not private beach and cannot even provide to book a sunbed in one of the super expensive 'bagni' accross the road. View over SM harbour could be quite nice, however you cannot really open it due to the noise and the fumes !
The furnitures are really ugly and so soooo tired...probably the same my parnets had when they were there ins the 60s...Overhall quite bad experience and defintely would not go back and would never reccommend it.
Hotel is also overpriced ( more than 200 Euros per night) for what they call a suite that is actually a ugly room with dangerous steps in front of a small and tired bathroom. I'm not sure why this Hotel is rated 4 star....I am afraid that some Hotels in Italy are loosing the sense of what a good standar is....

Stayed in Deluxe Junior Suite - consisted of large living area and separate bedroom with adequate bathroom also had very large balcony overlooking the beach and the bay - stunning views. Loved the dining room set up for breakfast (albeit at bit eclectic - but added to the charm) and the staff were very friendly. Loved selection of breakfast foods - much better than some of the 'American' breakfasts (as advertised) in other hotels. Great central location for exploring Cinque Terre and Portofino - would come back to the area and stay at this hotel in a heartbeat !!
