We stayed in Rapallo for 6 nights and had a great time. The accommodation was very nice.
There is a large terrace that has great views over the bay and over to the Portofino promontory. We bought food at the supermarket and ate on the terrace on a couple of nights. It was very relaxing. (We didn't use the terrace during the day because there was no shade).
There is a locked gate in the parking lot (the apartment comes with a key) which leads to a path that takes you into town. We enjoyed our walks into town for the market and for restaurants.
There are also shale beaches that are along the above path. They are packed with sun loungers and umbrella's (we paid 23 Euros's for 2 loungers and an umbrella for day use). The beaches are small and average but you have the convenience of being able to walk. We preferred the short drive to Zoagli for the free public pebble beach (water was clearer).
There a is a small parking spot that comes with the apartment. (see later)
The apartment is nice and well laid out. The kitchen was well appointed with a dishwasher, gas stove, fridge/freezer, clothes washer, and a smaller toaster oven/grill. The living/dining area is small, but given we were 2 adults and 2 children we had room.
The bathroom was nice with a warm shower (we had stayed the prior week in 2 other places in Italy whose showers were cold).
There are two bedrooms 1 with queen bed and 1 with two twin beds. The beds were comfortable and each bedroom comes with a closet/wardrobe.
Our biggest challenge was the heat. There is an air con unit in the hall which keeps the hall nice and cool however the rest of the apartment was always very hot. We kept the shutters closed to keep the sun out but the air con to be honest was ineffective. It was hard to sleep given the heat. (Also don't put the dishwasher, clothes washer and a/c on at the same time as the power goes out and you need to call to get them to come in and restore the power)
We would stay here again but not during the summer due to the heat. A couple of ceiling or floor fans are badly needed for summer months.
The only other issue we had was the parking. Twice we came back and found someone had parked in our space (which is supposed to be assigned to the apartment but it isn't obvious). We put a note in Italian (privato parcheggio) on the cars that parked there and by next morning both times they had moved. (Parking is very tight here and we had to park in a spot that is barely wide enough for two scooters until the offending cars had moved). Note there are red and white poles in a rack near the hedge across from the parking spot. We started putting these across our spot and didn't have the issue again.
One last thing to mention is there is a train track between the apartment and the beach. The trains are quite frequent but are relatively quiet and are short. Our youngest son loved watching the trains from the terrace so it worked for us, I genuinely didn't see them as a negative.
The management of the apartment is very good and very responsive. They take PayPal which was nice and refunded our deposit quickly. There was someone waiting for us when we arrived which made check in very easy. The lady was also responsive when the power went out. Overall very professional.
