Hosteria Bertolini is located near our lodging in the hills above La Spezia. We were told that the Hotel Nella restaurant was the go-to place in the area, but Bertolini should offer stiff competition. My wife and I thought the food better here. Truly fine cooking. The only problem (and we very much hope that the restaurant staff will work it out) is that the menu, which changes daily, is on a chalkboard in front, not on paper. Most of the guests were not Italian, which meant that the waiter had to explain each item on the menu to each table of guests. That took time. Once we got past that (and it took a while!), the food, when it finally arrived, was excellent. We wish the place every success, but some fine tuning is in order.
