Fun and efficient trip up to the hills on the outskirts of Genoa. Views are great, but there’s not a massive amount to see in the immediate vicinity once you arrive at the top (beyond the views of course). There is a fort which you can walk to within 15 minutes, but there are no sign posts directing you, so it’s a bit of luck if you end up actually finding it...

While the funicular ride itself was fun (and very cheap), when we got to the top, the view across the Genoa seascape was disappointing in that it was blotted out by trees and buildings for the most part. At the rear, the views towards the mountains were better, but, again, the foreground did the views no favours.
It is worth it for the ride, and, perhaps, if you spent more time at the top and went to the park, then it might have been more impressive. (We did not have time.)

We were eager to take a ride with the funicular System put in place for the first time 120 years ago. Cheap ticket, friendly staff, comfortable ride. The view up top is fantastic. This is not related to the amt, but it would be useful to have a clearer set of info with map of what can be done uphill.

It's definitely worth taking a funicular up to the last stop. There's a view from the deck but it's worth to walk about 5minutes (to street heading upwards) where you'll get a full panoramic view of the city and harbor.

This gem would be so easy to miss if I hadn't read about it already on TripAdvisor as the entrance is pretty well hidden in a little side street.

For the price of the standard 1.50e 100 minute ticket you get to ride up the very steep slopes to Righi from where on a clear day you can enjoy fantastic views of Genoa and the surrounding hills. The train is comfortable and clean and a real experience in itself. From the top there are numerous walks of varying lengths or you can simply enjoy the view and return by train again. A must-do if in Genoa.
