I had the swordfish with fresh vegetables and everything was delicious. The menu is in Italian, but they explained it all to me so I could order. Food came quickly and was very good value. I plan on going back while I’m here this week. It is a tiny place but worth the wait!

We went here as a group of 10 people and had outdoor seating. The food was very good and the owners were very hospitable and we enjoyed our night at this restaurant.

Had a great meal here, after looking on trip advisor for a nearby trattoria. Good wine list, had a lovely soft Chianti Superiori, we both chose from the specials board, pork and spiced pumpkin and linguini with muscles and greens. The desserts were delicious - Tiramisu and a chestnut glacé with marscapone. The ladies front of house worked hard and spoke good English witch helped us!

We spent 1 night in Genoa after a cruise so after a tiring day exploring and an early flight the next day wanted only a nice plate of pasta and a glass of wine.

This little Osteria was recommended to us by the hotel (Grand Hotel Savoia - see separate review) staff and was only a few minutes walk away hidden at the top of a small alley.

We arrived as it opened and were immediately seated on one of only a few tables in a small welcoming little restaurant by a very friendly lady who was happy to speak to us in Italian and supplement in English when we needed.

The menu was small with several available specials, but had a good choice, and it was with some difficulty that we eventually decided - husband and I on vegetable stuffed pansotti in walnut sauce, and our 10 year old on meat ravioli with pine nuts.

We had a bowl of delicious homemade focaccia with olive oil while we waited, and the house red by the glass was deep, smooth & delicious.

When the pasta arrived it was a decent portion, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. If we’d spent the evening over a more leisurely meal including starter and meat course we’d have been seriously full, but the pasta was exactly what we needed and allowed us to squeeze in a dessert each - tiramisu for the adults and chocolate cake with forest fruits for our daughter.

More people came in as the evening went on including several eating alone, and all were well served by the lady hostess with menus in several languages.

It was reasonably priced for what we had and the quality of the food, and we were pleasantly surprised that the wonderful wine was only 4 Euro for the large glass we had.

Osteria Caracas is one of those restaurants that you find only rarely, on a side street (a side alley literally) that goes so beyond your expectations that you need to sing its praises (although you'd like to keep the secret to yourself). The restaurant was near our hotel, near the train station, and we noticed the menu put out on the corner of the alley. Decided to give it a chance (we typically find good restaurants this way) and were so happy we did. Made a reservation through our hotel. Tiny restaurant (like eight tables inside and out). Atmosphere cozy, with outside being next to a jazz club. Simplest review we can do is that the food was outstanding, every single dish. Antipasto, pastas, meats were prepared with so much flavor and sophistication that we were astounded. So informal and friendly. Had some of the more well-known dishes including the ravioli de la casa as well as other pastas and finally rabbit, the best I have had in my lifetime, and a sumptuous, homemade tiramisu (the best we have every had). Our 15 year old granddaughter was ecstatic with the food (quite something for a 15 year old). Said it was the best food she had ever eaten. Caring, family-like service. Very good wines at reasonable prices. For the quality of the food and service and overall friendliness the price was more than reasonable. Very, very highly recommended, just keep it your secret.
