Location:Excellent..In Old town close to all palaces..shops...port and 10-15 minute walk to train station. easy walking everywhere with numerous cafes/restaurants close by.
Hotel: Friendly and secure.Rooms small (as all city hotels) but nice decor and very clean.Staff very helpful.Breakfast adequate with the best coffee in town.3rd floor location with quirky lift !!
Highly recommended

Room Tip: Stayed in room 9 which had patio door to terrace...only room with direct access to terrace

Superb location (10 min walk to the main squares), super helpful staff, nice and adequately sized bedrooms and an excellent breakfast all combine to make this a super choice. The man on the desk (not sure of his name, but he seems to be the main man here) has superb recommendations for eating options and wine bars throughout the city.

Stayed here for two nights early June 2012. Booked completely last minute but very glad I did!

Location wise however, it's literally a five minute walk to most of the city's attractions, whether you're interested in the Palazzo Reale, Piazza de Ferrari, Via Garibaldi/Le Strade Nuove, Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, Porto Antica, or even the University. Equally accessible is the Principe train station, only ten minutes walk.

The hotel is a little hard to find, and is on the 3rd floor of a building which you enter and navigate through a corridor to get to the (entertaining) lift. Once in however it's enormously friendly, with helpful staff speaking good English. The rooms are basic, as you'd expect in Italy at this price, but have been decorated with modern artworks which are interesting if not exactly to your taste.

Beds firm (good thing as far as I'm concerned) and rooms are relatively decent sized. Shower cubicle very small (I'm a big person) and would have preferred a bigger cubicle whilst losing the bidet (but again, we're in Italy).

Air conditioning worked well, it was pretty muggy outside, but it only worked once I'd realised I had to visit reception to get the controller! Roof terrace pleasant, especially in the sun, and good for smokers who don't want to navigate back to the front door!

Breakfast was basic but perfectly reasonable with fresh bread rolls and croissants, along with the usual other stuff. The coffee was gorgeous - really very nice, and dirt cheap if you wanted a cup later on in the day (1 euro).

Altogether a perfect place for a last minute, easy on the budget stay.

The only real drawback to this hotel is the rigmarole involved in using the lift, which was pretty ancient. The reception is on the third floor and it was difficult to use when dragging luggage. All the bedrooms seem to be named after artists. Ours was called Mondrian, which had one drawback, anyone over 6 foot tall would have difficulty using the bathroom, due to lack of space. However, the hotel is reasonably well equiped with a small gym, comfortable communal areas and internet access. I would certainly stay there again.

A great base for exploring Genoa--walkable from Principe station, close to the museums on Via Garibaldi, and easy access to the rest of the old city. Good value for money with smallish pleasant rooms. Room 9 opens on the terrace.
