tylish, clean apartment with kind owners and great location. Apartment has washing machine and aircon (small extra cost if used).
Be aware that you have to go up two flights of stairs from the street then you have a choice of a lift or another 3 (ish) flights of stairs to the flat - this caused us no problems and we always used the stairs. There is no dishwasher - again not a problem for us. Taxi driver could not find it and nor could we on foot with no mobile signal - it is down a flight of steps then 10m of pedestrian alley from the main road. Get a map before you arrive!
The apartment is modern and on the third floor(lift at top of staircase) of an old palace with an elegant entrance staircase. It consists of 2 bedrooms with twin beds ,a kitchen diner with settee and dining table and a bathroom/toilet.
It is off Via XXVth Aprile on the boundary of the old town and the new town and down some steps very near Piazza de Ferrari the main square. The apartment is quiet at night, furnished to a good standard but the mattresses are of rather poor quality but I slept OK. The apartment handbook mentions that Air Conditioning is an extra which seems very strange and this would need checking with the owner in hotter months. The owner is very efficient and helpful.
Genoa is on a hillside over looked by forested peaks and valleys rising to 600m which adds to its atmosphere. It is a great place to stay with lots of quirky things to see and do. There is a huge variety of atmospheric bars and restaurants and the food is excellent and its a very good city for vegetarians. Check out Funicular Righi for hill walks. Vertical and horizontal lift for Castello viewpoint and the Casella train up into mountains. The Maritime Museum is very good other museums so so but Via Garibaldi should be visited . Buy a very detailed map that shows EVERY lane (Caruggi) in the old town, it's well worth it. Via Luccoli, Luca and Magdellana form a triangle of shopping streets in the old town.
Train to Camogli, and or Santa Margarita De Ligure for Portofino Peninsula , Ferries from these towns. San Frutusso and Camogli and the ferry rides to and from these are stunningly beautiful.(30min by rail from Genoa). Walks on the Portofino Peninsula are very beautiful but very steep you need to be sure footed and semi-fit ( maps in Camogli)- not good if wet underfoot. Prices in San Frutusso and Portofino 1.5- 2 times those in Genoa and Camogli.( Birra media 5 Euro Genoa 9 Euro San F.)
All in all a very good apartment and Genoa is a brilliant place to visit if you like to have a variety of things to see and do. We found our Bradt guide to Ligure very . good and accurate. The city: "Visitgenoa" produces a smart phone city guide you can download for free.
We stayed 3 nights with a family of 4. The apartment was great. Newly renovated, well equipped with all needed (incl Nespresso cafe machine). The location is just perfect, everything is in walking distance (5 min to the Aquarium, the old city or public transport) and 15 min to the train station for Cinque Terre. Very quiet and nice neighborhood with shops and restaurants. On top our host, Andrea was very welcoming, helpful and very accommodating.
I have nothing else to say that I truly recommend this place for a stay in Genoa.
