We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage daughters and we stayed in the third solution for 3 nights in April 09. We found the accommodation great - plenty of room for us all. The view from the veranda was fantastic and great to sit and relax and enjoy some wine and cheese.
The service was great. Ugo met us at the station and showed us the way to the apartment along the lanes and up and down the stairs to reach the apartment showing us the food stores on the way. From the moment we emailed Gian Battista with our enquiry he was very helpful and quick to respond and we made our booking with no credit card details given - he confirmed our booking straight away and provide us with mobile numbers to contact his father, Ugo, as soon as we arrived at the station.
We had a lovely stay here. We visited the 5 towns and Riomaggiore was one of the most peaceful towns. All the towns are fantastic with so much character.
The only thing that we didn't like was the restaurant that was up the stairs with the best view over the water and to see the sunset selling frozen pasta meals that they heated in the microwave - such a shame considering all the lovely fresh food available. I would suggest buying a bottle of wine and sitting on the wall eating a pizza and enjoying the view.
These five towns are all beautiful with there own style. You will be more than happy to stay here. If you like more atmosphere and action maybe Monterosso will be more your style but you can't go past the service from Rio Rooms.
Enjoy Cinque Terre!

My boyfriend and I stayed in room number one for a week in August. It was great to have the kitchen and it's on the main street so there are plenty of grocery stores and a deli. It's a 2-minute walk to the train station and the dock, and Riomaggiore is a charming village. We slept with the windows open because it was so warm at night, which made it a bit noisy because of the bar directly in front of the apartment which plays music until midnight. There were also some outdoor concerts going on near the dock which kept, I think, the whole of Riomaggiore up. It was very clean, though, and the kitchen was well outfitted with cooking utensils.

Reviewed 27 April 2009

My boyfriend and I (both 25) stayed here, in Room #4, for 2 nights in April 2009. At 60 Euros a night, it was within our price range, and we were both surprised by how much room we had - there were two bedrooms and a pull-out couch, which would have made this a perfect apartment for 5 or 6 people (and a very cheap stay for each of them!). At first, due to the lack of reviews, and the fact that pictures on the Rio Rooms website aren't the best, we were worried about what we'd get. No worries here! The different rooms (#1-4) are located in different parts of the city, and we thoroughly enjoyed where we were. We were far enough away from the main street and the bars to not hear a lot of noise at night, yet were still within a 2-3 minute walk. We also could see the water from our apartment window, and hear the waves crashing at night. It was the perfect place to stay! When you see postcards of Riomaggiore looking up from the water at the city, this building is actually in the picture! Very cool! (in the first picture I have uploaded, we are the brown building with green windows/doors in between two yellow buildings - about 8 from the left on the front row).

The furniture and decor are a mixture of shabby chic and items that look like they were collected over time, yet it felt clean and spacious (the bathroom is small and bland, with pretty bad lighting, but with the great price and the fact that I wasn't planning on taking baths or hanging out in there on my vacation, this was a minor detail for us). Ugo, the gentleman who owns the rooms, was very helpful and met us at the main street (Via Colombo) and proceeded to help us with our things as we walked to the room. It's a little tricky to find, and I recommend meeting him rather than looking for it yourself.

All-in-all, we completely recommend this room, as you feel like you are "one of the locals" and on your own with your own apartment rather than in a hotel-style setup. We did the hike through all the towns in Cinque Terre (starting with the "Trail of Love" from our town to Manarola), and we felt like we DEFINITELY made the right decision when choosing Rio Rooms and Riomaggiore. Beautiful and relaxing - we cannot wait to go back!!!
