“An unforgettable hide-away with an incredible welcome”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

It was a marvellous experience to arrive in Manarola at La Torretta. Apart from the difficulty of getting there by car (we arrived from Genova and the Google map indicated a road that was in the mean time destroyed by the terrible floods in 2011, so the only way is to come from La Spezia), once we arrived there, it was paradise. I've never experienced in any hotel, not even in 5 stars hotels, such a warm welcome: a bottle of Prosecco was awaiting for us, Mr. Giuseppe, the owner, wrote us a personal welcome note, reserved us a table to the restaurant, everything in the minibar and the single malt whisky was offered, nespresso coffee machine, a chocolate every evening on the pillow, really incredible. And even more incredible, the house has a 2 place jacuzzi that the guests can reserve and they are again offered a glass of prosecco to sip in the bubbling water. For Easter, we had the surprise to receive at breakfast a huge chocolate Easter egg. From 5-7, "il vino del patron", the house wine offered on the terrace allows to admire the beautiful sunset over Cinque Terre. In spite that there is no real garden or swimming pool (which would be impossible in such a place because of the steep mountains around), the house has so many charming corners that you can discover a new one every day of your stay. Our room had a small terrace with a superb view on the sea and on the Easter decorations that enlighted every evening the hill in front. The bed was extremely comfortable which is quite rare in many hotels of similar rating.
Cinque Terre is a wonderful place for hiking and I guess spring is the perfect season where all the citrus bear their fruit, everywhere is green and in blossom. In summer it must be quite unbearable because there is practically no beach and hiking in the mid day sun heat must be quite difficult although the paths are shaded by wonderful olive trees and other mediteranian plants.

Room Tip: Every room is different, we enjoyed a lot having a room with a terrace even small, it allows to admi...

I always like to rate hotels based on would I stay here again given an alternative option. Definitely would stay here again!!! This place far exceeded our expectations for a home-base in the Cinque Terre. It is a haven of rest & relaxation after a long day of hiking. The views are spectacular, & the appertiva plus wine on the common patio balcony is a great way to meet other guests & travelers.

It is perched atop a somewhat steep climb, so my only advice is to travel lightly before you ride the train into town. Getting to the top was all part of the experience though & is well worth it.

Room Tip: Practically every room has a view that we saw.

The view of the hotel is impressive, a perfect panorama to Manarola. The rooms are large enough with a pleasant design and it looks more like small apartments with kitchen. I enjoyed especially the breakfast in the room with fresh croissants, juices and perfect espresso. The access to the rooms is quite difficult on the small stairs, but for me it was just a part of Manarola atmosphere.

I rented a studio apartment from La Torretta in January and enjoyed it very much. All windows were overlooking the bay of Manarola and there was a small balcony outside the door where I could sit and admire the scenery. The studio was clean, fully equipped and recently renovated and the staff was polite and helpful. La Torretta is perfectly located for all the most famous Cinque Terre walks and I will definitely be back there next time I am in the area.

I can't really add a whole lot that hasn't already been said about this hotel. Cinque Terre is really a magical place, and I cant imagine there being a better place to stay in any of the five towns. Truthfully, a hotel in Cinque Terre would have to try pretty hard to get a negative review...it's that great. This hotel is not cheap, but this really is a case of "you get what you pay for"; they delivered on every one of our expectations.

It's a good hike from train-station level to the square at the top of the town where this hotel is, so be aware of that. Apparently there is a bus that will carry you up the hill, but we never took it. We had a welcome bottle of champagne, the fridge is stocked with drinks and included in the room rate, and there is a Nespresso machine in the room. Our room was up some fairly steep steps, which ended up providing a great view of the sea and the town below. Drinks and appetizers every evening served on the many porches provide great wind-down time. Breakfast was brought to the room every morning. Rooms were great, service was great, and price was great for what you get. This was the nicest and most expensive hotel on our Italian trip, but also the most satisfying.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have rooms without a view, but I would make sure I got one that does
