We had been gone for over three weeks, half way around the world to Argentina and Peru. We came dragging in to Bologna on our way to our home near Venice. I was ready to be pampered a bit. The AC Hotel Bologna came through in spades. Wonderful hotel, conveniently located to the airport and train station. The breakfast was great and the staff excellent. The room bordered on divine, especially considering how tired we were. And, at 5 Euro a pop, the prosecco was an excellent deal. Considering the price, this has to be one of the great deals in Italy. We would easily pay three times as much in Venice for the same amenities.

After 25 years + of travelling on business to Italy...AT LAST!, Marriott (at least in a kind of Marriott form) have arrived.

Modern 'boutique style' hotel, well placed for car or taxi access to Bologna centre as well as outside areas, but kind of in that 'too far to walk, but too close to be popular with the taxi driver' distance from the railway station...

Good supply of spare toilletries in the bathroom was good to see (Italy is still one of only about 3 countries in the world where soap & shampoo are not necessarily provided in hotels!!), with spare toothbrush/toothpaste; spare razor/shaving foam; shoe cleaning..etc. etc.

Staff were very friendly, helpful and amusing and the breakfast was self service (apart from the essential cappucio!), so if a fast getaway is required, this is also ideal..

We stayed here as it was part of Marriott properties.
Not in the city center, but very comforable. I soaked in the huge bathtub the first night, loved the bathrooms. nice breakfst buffet, and friendly and helpful front desk staff. when it snowed 18 inches, we were unaable to leave so they were able to offer us a room for the 3rd night. the front desk made numerous calls to change and reschedule hotel and dining reservations do to the weather. overall a nice stay despite the weather conditions.

I don’t recommend AC Bologna Hotel.

As a professional person dedicated to Online Marketing I want to express my dissatisfaction:

It has more cons than pros. My experience during the first week of
January 2012 was not satisfactory due to:

1-The location of the hotel is far away from the city centre and it’s placed
in an ugly neighbourhood surrounded by nothing that is worth seeing.

2-I sent my clothes to the laundry service and I got them cleaned the next day but 3 sizes smaller. They didn’t give me any compensation, and they were so elegant not to admit their mistake, and here comes the best, the receptionist had the courage of telling me to lose weight, and so the clothes can fit. (Im 1,85 , 80 kilos)

3-The gym has two cycles and one running machine. One of the cycle and the running machine were out of service the entire week.

4-The reception personal were new in the city and they couldn’t give me any good recommendation concerning gastronomy, and sightseeing.

5-There is not wireless and if you want to go online they charge you 10 euros per hour. Its a ripoff

In conclusion, there are a whole good service of hotels and accommodation at our disposal nowadays so be smart and make a good choice.

The hotel seems to be quite new, maybe 10 yrs old or so. Spacious rooms in a nice modern design. Dark wood (or wood imitation in some cases) on the floor and furniture, room big enough, a good bed, clean and spacious bathroom with a good showerhead - I hate those things that release only a trickle of water.
The breakfast is on the upper edge of what I have seen in Italian 4* properties, including some freshly cut fruit and not the canned alternative.
However it needs to be said that it is located at the edge of the Bologna fairground / conference center quarters whose mainstreet is called "Via Stalingrado" and that more or less also describes the charme of the neighbourhood. To reach the city center you need to walk 15 minutes, crossing the bridge of traffic hell.
If you go there for business / a fair I would recommend it, for a nice weekend in town look for something else!
