“Excellent location from which to explore Bologna.”

The apartment was clean, compact and comfortable in a beautiful palazzo. It was well equipped and close to the heart of Bologna in a lively area.
Giancarlo responded to our inquiries promptly and gave us useful advice about finding the apartment.
We would not advise driving to the apartment as it is difficult to get to and there is no parking at the apartment. A car is not needed in Bologna and can be a hassle. The best way to get to the apartment is by bus or on foot from the station.
Gastronomic tip: aperitifs and buffet for 7-8 euro nearby.

“Everything you need from a base in Bologna”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

This little apartment, created within one of Bologna's famous porticoes, makes a perfect base for a couple from which to visit the city. It is within the secure gates of the Palazzo Pannolini and, despite the proximity of Via Zamboni, it is pretty quiet, yet only a few minutes walk to the famous two towers and Bologna's historic area.
Giancarlo provides everything you might need from a washing machine and microwave through to free wifi and TV. He met us on arrival, explained everything and helped by ordering a taxi for us on departure.
The mezzanine bedroom is more than adequate although we didn't try and manoeuvre our large suitcase up the spiral staircase, just unpacked what we needed and took that up.
All in all we found it very convenient for a visit to Bologna - and at a reasonable price.

“Great little flat, very quiet in central location”

This is a great little flat which is wonderfully quiet despite being just off the lively Via Zamboni. A perfect base for exploring this beautiful city. Giancarlo was very helpful, responding quickly to our questions both before and during the stay and he even gave us a lift to the airport. Thanks Giancarlo.

“Central oasis”

We stayed at Palazzo in one of the hottest July's on record. The central location allowed us to experience the city to the fullest, but also escape the heat during the hottest part of the day. The apartment is ideally located steps from the two towers, and on the edge of the university district. There are plenty of places to eat and drink within minutes of slow meandering. The a/c was an absolute life saver, allowing us to sleep soundly in the very comfortable queen bed. Everything you need is here in the apartment, we will be back for another stay.

One note of advice, the bedroom is up a flight of narrow spiral stairs. You need to be able to navigate the steps confidently. Not for those with mobility issues.

Recommend "Italian Days" for a foodie day tour (wine/cheese/ham) and Restorante di Postigliani

“5 Glorious Weeks in a Palazzo”
Reviewed 23 June 2015 for a stay in April 2015

There is very little I can add to the already glowing reports of this fantastic apartment. We had spent a month in a VRBO property in Paris and did not think anything could top that, but we must say that Bologna is now our favorite city. Giancarlo, the owner, is amazingly well suited to receive and host guests because he is very personable in every way, and when a question arises he always has an appropriate solution. For example, we had to change slightly our days of arrival twice, and he made an adjustment each time to help us out. He was so concerned that we be able to contact him that he gave us a cell phone of his own (we had not brought one along).
In response to comments on the kitchen, we shopped daily in the famous fresh markets just a few streets away (as well as Paolo Atti and Tamborini for fresh pasta), and went every few days to the Coops on Moline and the PAM supermarket on Marconi. We were able to prepare complex meals of multiple courses, so no limitations there.
The stairway clearly shown in the pictures is not an issue. Using it with care and gripping the hand rail, it is very safe. The ambient living room light from outside at night means one never needs to use the stairs in total darkness.
The apartment was cleaned weekly and the bed linens and towels changed. We used the washing machine and hung our clothes to dry on the rack provided. The iron and ironing board came in most handy, too.
Giancarlo’s recommendations for the best espresso in town, the best pizza (also exceptional for seafood), and the best gelaterias (even down to which flavor each one is famous for) were all tremendous help.
We attended an opera performance at the Teatro Comunale just down the street and went to many classical music concerts (free, donation requested) at the Oratorio Santa Cecilia across the street. The Johns Hopkins SAIS (School of Advanced International Studies) has frequent lectures of interest by scholars passing through. Their building is located adjacent to the University of Bologna and just a short walk from the apartment.
In short, we are already planning next spring’s trip to Europe and will be including a stop through Bologna again to take advantage of all that Palazzo Pannolini offers.
