My wife and I and another couple of our friends stayed at Il Convento from 5 - 8 May 2012. We had a very enjoyable stay and found that the staff (particularly Laura and Serena) were most helpful and friendly. The double room that we had booked was replaced with a junior suite at no extra charge on our arrival and the room itself was well appointed and spotlessly clean. The hotel itself is quirky as many of the reviews point out but we found this to be a source of fascination rather than an irritation. The only downside we found was the single elevator/lift (a) it is small - why are all Italian hotel lifts small? (b) very slow and (c) needs the floor button to be pressed continuously for it to move. Very odd. There are only a few rooms but all of them are individual and very comfortable. The location of the hotel in Via Orfeo is about 1km from Piazza Maggiore in the centre of Bologna and can be a little noisy at night but that's only to be expected from a city hotel. I don't think that guests can have dinner at the hotel but that is no hardship since in Bologna you are surrounded by fantastic restaurants and trattorias and you really shouldn't want to stay in the hotel to dine. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel.
