My wife and I just spent 10 nights at Casatori. I can say we have experienced Bologna as if we were living there. If you want a taste of life as a local in Bologna, this is a great choice!
We found the apartment extremely clean, charming and well stocked. You can cook every meal there if you want. The bedroom (with lots of closets) and main bath are on the first floor, with the kitchen, dining space, living room and another toilet upstairs. Everything we used, including the washer, worked great. You can even line dry clothing within the apartment via a unique, out-of-the-way set up. We had no issues with electrical items as someone else reported, though the hair dryer takes some finessing to stay on when using an adaptor.
We were there in July and several days were unusually hot. The AC unit upstairs works minimally, so take that into consideration if visiting during extremely hot periods. The apartment is quiet despite being near a main street. We are light sleepers and could not hear traffic noise or neighbors. Between the ceiling fan in the bedroom and having the window open at night, it provided a cool breeze while sleeping. We found the bed comfortable.
Most importantly, the location of the apartment is outstanding. We never needed a rental car or taxi for daily getting around. The train station is less than a 15 minute walk. The center of town, the main market and shopping is 12 minutes walking. There are many restaurants literally less than five minutes away including an outstanding seafood restaurant (Ristorante Sikelia). A good pizza restaurant is 2 minutes around the corner and there are several small grocery markets nearby (one literally across the street). There is a good-sized locals only merchant/farmers market 5 minutes away (where you can buy anything from fresh pasta, produce, cheese, bread, take away food, wine, etc. - don’t miss the rotisserie chicken!). We also enjoyed that we could walk out the front door, cross the street and have our daily espresso & brioche or nightcap at Bar Jimmy. The owner there is very nice and welcoming. Again, overall the location is great.
As others have also noted, the owners of Casatori are extremely kind and accommodating and speak very good English. They went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant, cozy stay. We have done several of their Bluone food and wine tours and these are also very special and highly recommended.

Our stay in Bologna at Casatori was a memorable one. When we first walked into the portico of the 16th century building we knew that the apartment was going to make our stay a true Italian experience.
The third floor walk up was a welcoming task each day after many a wonderful meal in the beautiful town center within easy walking distance.
The apartment was immaculately clean and offered room to relax after a great day of sight seeing. We could picture how it must be to live in Bologna from staying in this comfortable space with everything you may possibly need.
The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. I would also highly recommend taking a tour from their company Bluone. We experienced the most amazing cultural activities with them!
Marcello, Raffaella and their daughter Francesca made every effort to make our time in Bologna one we will neverfforget!
. Our only difference with critter7 is that we got the washer to work and the dishes were clean. However, I was concerned about the age of the electric wiring when standard European prongs on an extension cord we bought in Europe didn't fit some of the old sockets. We've used this extension in many other EU countries with no problem. I asked friends who travel in Italy a lot and they had never run into sockets that didn't take a modern standard EU prong.. So in addition to the bedroom window that rattles every time a bus goes down the street, the mattress that blew out my husband's back, the apt needs updating in many ways. Good location, just caulk so the window and update the electric wiring.
This apartment is located well with only a short walk into the center. WiFi worked well but that's about it. Air conditioner was useless and did not cool even slightly. Washing machine stopped on every cycle. Mattress was saggy, lumpy and very uncomfortable. Bedroom window rattled constantly. Dishes were dirty with old dried up food on them. Hosts should not assume that previous guests have washed properly. Most annoying was being told not to use 2 appliances at once or we would over load the circuits. So no kettle, hair dryer, washing machine or oven etc could be used at the same time. We stayed all over Italy for a month and never had that problem in any other apartment. Whilst our hosts were lovely people they need to repair and upgrade the appliances. This is our honest and not exaggerated opinion and we feel it's our obligation to inform other travelers of our experience.
